Sher, Being disabled (non-mobile) and living in the US I have had zero luck getting the information as the library is not someplace that I could get to if and when the films come in......sigh. Thanks for the pointers, maybe some genealogy angel will help me and I can at least point them to the correct series......thanks! This series covers each county - so order the film with the letter of your county (S for Simcoe, etc.). Your librarian can access the National Archives site - I think Lorine gave you the URL for that - and you can order these films into your local library and read them. Your librarian can help you decide which films you want. There is very little personal information on these films, but sometimes it includes the pay received, and sometimes it includes a sample of the person's handwriting - and sometimes it says whether or not his wife and children were encamped with the unit - but other than that there isn't much - but it makes for good reading anyway!! Hope this helps. Sher At 02:10 PM 10/12/07, you wrote: Marg, Thanks for the pointers. Regarding the 1837 Rebellion Militia records, I put in the long address as a Google search and got two sites that work. The simplest one is New Tecumseth History - Simcoe County. It brings the page right up. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dawn Hicks" <> Sent: Saturday, October 13, 2007 6:28 AM Subject: [ONTARIO] 1837 Rebellion Militia records > Hi, > If you read the site correctly, it says they could not obtain permission > for > the Images. > > I see on the return mails that part of the site was not underlined so if > you > copy and paste it to your browser, it will work. The page works its just that in her message the URL wrapped to the next line and the last part was dropped from the hyperlink. http://calendar.county.simcoe.on.ca/partners/newteclib/history/database/0101_1.html Thanks for the pointer Dawn. Again thanks for the pointers. Being disabled in California and unable to get around I have to rely on the books, the internet (free and pay services) and genealogy angels who live in the areas I am needing information from to help me gain the information. This is why I ask on mailing lists since 9 times out of 10 someone else has helpful information, ideas or the needed information as they are a cousin I haven't located yet. Hi, If you read the site correctly, it says they could not obtain permission for the Images. I see on the return mails that part of the site was not underlined so if you copy and paste it to your browser, it will work. I just tried it again that way. http://calendar.county.simcoe.on.ca/partners/newteclib/history/database/0101 _1.html It does work but takes a bit of searching i.e. clicking on every number and searching the page. I saw the book at the North York Library and this is exactly the same. Dawn

Hi Jill, Here is a site where I found some of my people. http://calendar.county.simcoe.on.ca/partners/newteclib/history/database/0101 _1.html Dawn
Looking for a James HALL, s/o Elizabeth HILL & possibly Orin HALL, born around 1835/1836. He is in the 1851 census twice. Once as an apprentice to Jonathan AUSTIN, carriage maker in the town of Simcoe where he is age 16, born Canada He is also with his family in Townsend twp (Waterford) - his step-father Charles MERRILL age 58, mother Elizabeth MERRILL age 42, brother Thomas (age 21 - he later married Annie Rebecca SCHRAM) and half brother Charles MERRILL jr. age 6. There are also 2 teenage COLLVER girls in the household but I am not sure if there is any relation. In this census entry, James is 17, born in USA, resident of Simcoe. Does anyone have such a James HILL in their family? Elizabeth HILL is my ggg-grandmother's sister She married Charles MERRILL in Aug 1845, Gore District. The family were Baptists. Thomas HALL was born in Beamsville & died in California in 1906. Thanks Mary
