You could check Phone books and City Directories to hunt for their names. Have you tried land records? Once you find out where they lived, you can check abstract indexes to deeds to see if they owned the property, and if so, when they sold or transferred it. See http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/land.shtml for help with Ontario land records What about the 1946 Registration File? They may be in there, depending when they died. See http://naturalizationrecords.com/ and choose CANADA then read about this census substitute. You mention his attestation papers, but did you send for the complete file or did you just view the online images which are for ONE page, front and back? If you didn't get the full file, you should. It can have hundreds of pages (or a few, you never know what will be in it) and sometimes has the former soldier's date of death recorded at a later date. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~canmil/ and choose FIND YOUR MILITARY ANCESTOR from the links provided, to get back to the online CEF database These are just a few ideas for you Lorine -- Lorine McGinnis Schulze * Olive Tree Genealogy (Ships Passenger Lists) http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ * Naturalization Records http://naturalizationrecords.com/ * Images of Ships Lists http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/ships/ otg@csolve.net or olivetreegenealogy@gmail.com

    1. [ONTARIO] WILSON of KIDDER/WILSON
    2. Dawn Hicks
    3. Hi, I was wondering if any of you have a connection to these WILSONs mentioned on the program. I was very interested as Tecumseth was mentioned and I have a very elusive Elizabeth WILSON. I know nothing of her parents or siblings. What I do know is that she is given as the mother on her daughter, Ann DEARINGs marriage in 1866 as follows: Ontario Marriages. "John CARR , 26 West Gwillimbury, Canada son of John & Jane married DEARER, Ann, 22 West Gwillimbury Canada daughter of Robert & Elizabeth witn: Robert DEARER West Gwillimbury 22 Feb 1866 Pg. 274." So it follows that Ann was born about 1843 and her sister Sarah Jane in 1849. By 1856, Robert has remarried to Mary MANNING. I have searched for a gravesite where Robert is buried, but there is no mention of her on the stone. Her daughter Sarah Jane Dearing WEBBER's death record gives the mother's name as WILSON. Who was Elizabeth and what happened to her? Dawn

    1. [ONTARIO] Margot KIDDER's family-tree
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, Since Margot KIDDER's family-tree has been mentioned on that new TV show, and I found out that her maternal line was discussed, I thought I would do a little investigating and came up with her KIDDER line: It started out with the patriarch and his wife, James KIDDER (1626-1676) and Anna MOORE. James arrived probably around 1650 and married the daughter of Francis MOORE of Cambridge, MA. They had 12 children, some born after they moved to Billerica, MA. The line comes down to Enoch KIDDER who married Mary HAYWARD and then married Mrs. Hannah (CROSBY) DANFORTH. * Enoch and Mary had 7 children. The line comes down to Francis KIDDER who married Elizabeth HILL. They had 10 children. The line comes down to Francis KIDDER, Jr., who married Mary CHASE, and they had 9 children. (Francis, Sr., had moved his family to Sutton, MA, and Francis, Jr., lived there and then moved to Stratton, VT.) The line comes down to Abel KIDDER who married his cousin, Mary CHASE, and then married Mrs. Sarah (?) SPRAGUE. Abel and Mary had 9 children. The line comes down to Ashbel KIDDER who married Mary SPRAGUE. They lived in Stratton, VT, and had 10 children. The line comes down to Willard KIDDER who married Louise KENDALL. They lived in Genesseo, IL, Quincy, MI, and Terre Haute, IN, and they had 7 children. The line comes down to Sidney KIDDER who was born in Indiana; he married Margaret POWELL in CA. Sidney was a mining engineer and lived in New Mexico. According to the KIDDER book, they had 3 children, and that's where the information stops. The line comes down to Kendall KIDDER, b1920, and I have no further information on him. The 1920 census has Sidney and Margaret KIDDER living in New Mexico with their 3 children mentioned, but the 3rd child is an infant, Sidney, instead of with the name, Kendall. I have inquired and found out that Sidney's family was not in the 1930 census in the U.S. Since Sidney was a university-educated mining engineer, one guess is that they moved to Canada during the 1920's ! I don't know of the moves around Canada for this family, but Margot was born in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories in the 1940's ! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0452288/bio One curiousity is that Margot was reported to have a cousin, Janet KIDDER, in Canada, another actress. I wonder if that means that Sidney and Marget KIDDER had more children, maybe another son, after they moved to Canada. Hope this is of interest to some ! Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (KIDDER is my main research of 13 years.) * I was going to say that I am also descended from Simon CROSBY of Billerica, MA, but, when looking at the "history of Billerica," I see a small mystery developing ! :o)

    1. [ONTARIO] KIDDER Families (Cont'd.)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, While looking for a William KIDDER in 1700's NY, I was reminded of a Richard KIDDER of 1700's Maine: Richard Kidder became quite a character during the Revolutionary War, and because of his loyalty to the King was forced to seek safety in flight to Nova Scotia. My note: When the time was right, he returned to Maine. On quick look, William was not a popular first name amongst the early KIDDER's. Of the few that I did find, most stayed in New England. I did see one William who spent most of his adult life in Darien, NY. There are researchers who have KIDDER's on their "tree" who came up to Quebec Province early on. I don't know if they are still on the Lists, and I don't know if they ever found the definite information on them. (There should be postings on them in the archives of the Lists and Boards.) Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) Remember to check the archives of all the Lists and Boards for your surnames and place-names. And, please remember to check the on-line auctions for for your surnames and place-names. (Just a reminder of my new List: CAN-USA-MIGRATION)

    3. Hi Peggy, When I'm on Lists which I don't often contribute to, I usally don't take the time (or space) to mention that my main research of ~13 years is on the KIDDER name. * And, I have the KIDDER book on CD. Regarding Margot KIDDER, when I received her note, I probably told about it on the KIDDER List (and Boards). So the information is in the archives there. I don't recall the information at the moment. (My "M.O." is to post all my findings on the Lists and Boards; that way I can refer to the data when I need to and it will hopefully help other people.) I know about a James KIDDER who left the Boston, MA, area in the 1750's and went to Nova Scotia. Probably when Halifax was being founded. Not much is known about his family as he and his wife died young and left several children as orphans ! I didn't know about the William KIDDER of NY who got land in Nova Scotia. I will have to find him in the KIDDER book and see what it says. Actually, Thomas KIDDER of 1700's Chelmsford, MA, died the day that Westford annexed off. He left a widow with 5 young sons. As adults, 3 of the sons went up to New Ipswich, NH, and one of them was my ancestor, Joseph KIDDER. Joseph had 3 sons. The oldest and youngest fought in the Revolutionary War. The middle son hightailed it up to New Brunswick ~1784. He followed other families from NH up there, but was not a Loyalist or Sympathizer himself. Someone suggested he followed his "girlfriend" up there. Almost nothing is known about Calvin KIDDER (1765-1799) from 1784 until his marriage in New Brunswick in 1798. He was killed in a boating accident in Feb. 1799, a week after his only child was born. This is the KIDDER web site. On the site you will see George KIDDER's name mentioned. For about 15+ years he has been trying to update the KIDDER book. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/1255/1255.htm .. Thank you for writing ... Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (My KIDDER line goes from: Cambridge and Billerica, MA, to Chelmsford and Westford, MA, to New Ipswich and Temple, NH, to St. Stephen, NB, to Calais and Princeton, ME, and down to Winchester, MA, where my grandmother was born.) Remember to check the archives of all the Lists and Boards for your surnames and place-names. And, please remember to check the on-line auctions for for your surnames and place-names.

    3. Hi Tom, Thank you for telling me about that ! I wrote to Margot maybe 6-7 years ago, and she kindly sent me a short note. She had just moved and hadn't unpacked her family-tree box, yet. And, that was before her Bipolar "episode." When I told her about George KIDDER in FL who is updating the KIDDER book, she wrote to him (after she retrieved her data). Betty P.S. I know several people with Bipolar, and one passed away before her time. It is a real shame that people don't realize what a nasty disease that can be ! I don't recall ever seeing a documentary on Bipolar on TV, so most people think it is just a "sometimes 'up' and sometimes 'down'" type of problem. That is only the half of it ! The "depression" part of it can be handled, but the "hyper" part of it can sometimes be very dangerous ! Actually, Bipolar has probably only been diagnosed within our lifetime. Imagine what happened to people with that disease in the 1700's and 1800's ! In my opinion, in a "worst-case situation," the person who is suffering a strong "hyper" "episode" takes on a different personality ! ----- Original Message ----- From: <tbrew@uwindsor.ca> To: <ontario@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 19, 2007 10:21 AM Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] Help with Canadian Genealogy-Betty!! > HI Betty....Kidder was on last night, but she was searching her mothers's > side of the family, Wilson. If you give more information we might be able to help you discover why. First place to look in old families in the US is to see if they were Loyalists. Well I did a quick check on my CD and came up with a William Kidder of NY who in 1790 was given 200 acres of land at Sable River Nova Scotia. Then there is Reuben Kidder of New Ipswich New Hampshire who there is a little biography on. You also say they migrated to NWT but no dates. If it was ca 1890s they possibly went on the Klondike Gold Rush. Canada is huge and 100 years ago there were reasons for going to specific areas. If you'd like to give some timeline there is probably someone on the list who could give a reasonable answer. Even if you cannot see the programs, the website does provide information on researching your family tree under the Genealogy 101 section. Not only does it provide beginners with tips and a case study showing how to work through your research but there are excellent links to Canadian resources under the Resources link. If you are researching family that resided in Canada you might find this site (and the program) useful. The link to the site is: http://www.cbc.ca/whodoyouthinkyouare/ Regards, Eric Nisbet
