    1. [ONTARIO] Adoption Tips for Sherri
    2. _genealogy@geneofun.on.ca_ (mailto:genealogy@geneofun.on.ca) Sherri stick with what you know. If your grandfather was adopted, he probley was. Have you tried searching for newsclippings around the time of his birth date? Try contacting Alice and see if she can direct you in the right direction. She is trying to help find adoptive children and their familys. Alice and other workers that are in touch with her have been such a great help. With out them I would of never of found my aunt who was given up as an infant. Good luck on your search. 3. Hello Basically I am looking for anyone around Alliston, Tottenham and all that area who might be working on the Langley's. I have been working on the family history for many years without success. Johanna LANGLEY (or otherwise known as Julia) married Thomas HICKEY (according to a letter that I have) on November 18, 1852. I would like to see a marriage certificate but fear it may not be found to find who her parents were. There eldest daughter Hannorah Hickey is my great grandmother. She first married Dennis Ryan and after his death Wm Casserley. I have charted the Langleys in Simoce area from the census but can not connect Johanna Hickey to any of them, any help appreciated. Joan

    3. I don't know if you are in Canada or the states. I was born in the states, Ohio, on my original birth certificate, in the upper right corner it has an A- followed by a number. This number is also on my amended birth certificate. I am assuming the A stands for Adopted. I would suggest calling the city where he was born and find out who issures the birth certificates. They might be able to tell you if there would be any special notation on the birth certificate. Many states do allow the records to be open now. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sherri" <genealogy@geneofun.on.ca> To: <ontario@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 04, 2007 10:17 PM Subject: [ONTARIO] Adoption - how do you confirm or deny someone was adopted? > > My brother-in-law's grandfather was told by his parents that he was > adopted > but his children think that may have been a lie to cover up pre-marital > "fun". 3. My brother-in-law's grandfather was told by his parents that he was adopted but his children think that may have been a lie to cover up pre-marital "fun". He died in 1985 and his children now want to learn the truth. Was he adopted or not? His daughter found his birth certificate registered less than a week after his birth in 1932. It shows his name and the names of the parents who raised him. Would there be an indication on the birth certificate if he was adopted? What steps should we take to find out the truth? Thanks for any suggestions!!

    3. Hi Malcolm: Hope you received the HUGE email that I sent you with all the info that I could find on your Willson family. I knew that it would be too big for the List to publish so sent it to you directly. To add to what I alreadys sent, Tillie (Willson) Burse' obit is online in a newspaper collection. From the obit, it looks like she and William C. adopted, or perhaps just considered the "waife" Edith that you see on the censi with them, as their daughter because she is mentioned as "daughter" in the obit, and her chldren as "grandchildren". The transcript:: From the Cass City Chronicle, Cass City, Michigan, Friday, March 13, 1942: Mrs. Wm Burse Mrs. William Burse passed away at her farm home in Elmwood Township on February 27, 1942, at the age of 84 years. Funeral services were conducted at the McPhail & Keehn Funeral Home the following Monday afternoon by the Rev. Mr. Dibley of the Sunshine Methodist Church. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. She was born in Rondo Harbor, Ontario, March 29, 1857. Ms. Burse is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Beardsley; and five grancdhilren. From the Cass City Chronicle, Cass City, Michigan, Friday, April 10, 1942: William C. Burse William C. Burse passed away at his hime in Elmwood Township on Friday morning, April 8, 1942, at the age of 86. Funeral services were conducted at the MacPhail and Keehn Funeral Home at 2pm Monday. Rev. Charles Dibley, pastor of the Sunshire Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. William C. Burse was born on August 2, 1855, in Blenheim, Ontario. He has been an invallid for years. Mrs. Burse died February 27 of this year. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles Beardsley, of Cass City; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Hunkins. And I finally found their marriage reg, now that I know how to spell Wm's surname: Ontario, Canada Marriages, 1857-1924 County of Essex, Division of Windsor Name: William Burse, bachelor, farmer, resides Tuscola (County), Michigan, Presbyterian Birth Place: Kent Ont Age: 27 Estimated birth year: abt 1855 Father Name: Jonathan Burse Mother Name: Sarah Marsden Spouse Name: Matilda Wilson, spinster, resides Windsor, Ontario, Methodist Spouse's Age: 26 Spouse Estimated Birth Year: abt 1856 Spouse Birth Place: Kent Ont Spouse Father Name: J K Wilson Spouse Mother Name: Eliza Wood Wilson Marriage Date: 6 Dec 1882 Marriage Place: Windsor, Essex Witnesses: Pontus Wood, Detroit, Ann Wilson, Windsor Family History Library Microfilm: MS932_39 Reg. #002839 and I then searched the newspaper website for mention of Tillie and William Burse and found: CASS CITY CHRONICLE—FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 1946: ORDER FOR PUBLICATION—FINAL ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNT. More volunteers have joined the effort to photograph all cemeteries in Cochrane District. * 4. More work is being done on Muskoka District Cemeteries. * 5. Over the past 7 years I have been asked by Out-Of-Province folks, "If I photographed local cemeteries, can I send the pictures to you and have them placed online?" At the time, I told these folks that I was concentrating only on Northern Ontario. * 2. However, I have now started building a website: http://gravemarkers.ca .....! On this new site I can accommodate photographs of complete cemeteries from anywhere in Canada. * 3. If you have family or friends across Canada who may be interested in photographing their local cemeteries, please pass on this information. * 4. If you are interested in your local cemeteries going online, please contact me at: mailto:murray@gravemarkers.ca * * ****************************************************** * Northern Ontario Gravemarker Gallery: * http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~murrayp * To Subscribe to this Newsletter please go to the Website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~murrayp and click on the "Join Updates Newsletter" button located just above the weather row. * ****************************************************** * * NOTES: ***** 1. Cemeteries photographed early in the project were not "spousal-duplicated". This means a photo which has the spouse's maiden name showing, is duplicated and when one searches for a surname, the spouse's name will be a search "hit". * 2. The majority of cemeteries are spousal duplicated now and thanks to the help of kind volunteers, we are working away to make sure the entire project is "spousal-duplicated". * 3. The speed at which cemeteries are photographed depends mostly on the price of gas for our cars to reach distant cemeteries. Should you wish to help out with this ongoing huge project, please contact Murray at mailto:murray@gravemarkers.ca * Bye for now.....Murray * Gravemarker Gallery - http://301url.com/gravemarkers * Nostalgia Gallery --- http://nocggh.org

    3. Hi everyone, Lorine, you may be able to answer this question. Sometimes when I go into the digital atlas, it is fine and other times when I try to locate a map, the enlarged image to the left is black. Is it just that their serve is down for that part , but seems strange that the portion on the right shows fine. I have turned off my pop ups thinking that might be a problem but it makes no difference. Dawn

    3. The Hamilton Public Library has books of indexes done by the Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society for the local funeral Homes (up to at least 1952) as well as surname indexes. There may be also something in the card index that the library has for various topics. There are other Michie names in Woodland cemetery (Helen , Dorothy, James A, and William C.) . Unlless you are in a hurry, I can check those cemetery transcriptions next time I'm at the library but it won't be for a month. James was from Scotland and arrived in Montreal Jun 25 1904 aboard the "Manitoba" At the http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/passenger/001045-100.01-e.php input the above and he is on page 11 of 15. The only other thing I can suggest is checking directories for various years. Jackie Coy Harmon wrote: >James Alexander Michie, b. 1 Apr 1883 in Aberdeen, Scotland, emigrated to Ontario in 1906.
