    1. [ONTARIO] Descendents of James SHIPTON
    2. John&Marj
    3. I have a book that was presented to James SHIPTON about 1891 in England. James was my step-uncle and I knew him very well when I was a child in Toronto. I imagine his descendents would like to have this book, but our family lost touch with them many years ago. Names of several of his children were James, Frederick, Babe. Dorothy, etc. If any of this sounds familiar, please drop me a line. Marjorie, a Gilbert

    3. Here is the birth registration so attestation papers probably wrong date. Name: Charles Arthur McQuarrie Date of Birth: 23 May 1888 Gender: Male Birth County: Grey Father's Name: John Laughlan McQuarrie Mother's Name: Marian Dand Roll Number: MS929_87 If you send for the attestation paper the first page will quite probably have the death date written on it. 1. [ONTARIO] Art McQuarrie
    2. I am sure that "the Soo" is Sault Ste Marie as "the Peg" is Winnipeg. In 1943 Art McQuarrie would have been 55. My guess is that he died prior to 1947 or so since I don't remember ever meeting or hearing about him. My bet is that he died somewhere in ON, but by then had nothing other than niece or nephews. He is not buried in Saskatoon, that I have researched. I have been off the Ontario list and searching for a few years now, busy working on the other side of the family. I just think that there may be some other recourse than to pay for a 5 year search at Thunder Bay probably 2 times to get 10 years. At least most of the heavy traffic for birth certificates may be over. My last death cert. in Thunder Bay took over 9 months. Charles Arthur McQuarrie born in Feversham May 23, 1888. He was a WWI vet. He was around Collingwood in 1934. He had a sister in Singhampton ON and Vancouver. He was in Valora ON in 1943. In a letter we have, written from Valora in 1943, he was working in a mill. He talked about going to "the Soo" and "the Peg". He was known to have visited family in Saskatoon SK but due to circumstances he was always put back on the train to ON when he wore out his welcome. My question is- I need suggestions in how to search for "Art". He is not buried in Saskatoon, Valora doesn't exist any more, and I don't think he is buried in Collingwood or Feversham. Would the veterans administration know if he was buried as a vet? I am sure he was indigent so no cemetery stone. Where should my cousin start? Suggestions please. 1. [ONTARIO] Railway Accident - Instant death March 22 1906
    2. Glen Johnson
    3. Two young men, both listed as Locomotive firemen are in the death register for Sarnia Township, Lambton. Both have a residence of London, Ontario. Dr Bradley was coroner for both men. The cause of death is given as a Railway accident with instant death. The first, Richard Crapp, 32 is of interest to me, the second was Nathaniel John Hughes, 23. I would expect this accident to have been reported extensively. Does anyone have any information? -- Glen Johnson Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wmjohnson1832

    3. Hi Glen: From the Toronto Daily Star, March 27, 1906: Censured the G. T. R. (Grand Trunk Railway) Switchman Found to Blame for Collision Causing the Death of Two Men at Sarnia Special to The Star Sarnia, March 27, 1906 - Coroner Dr. Bradley resumed the inquest yesterday over the deaths of Richard Crapp and Nathaniel Hughes, GTR firement, who lost their lives in the accident early Thursday morning last. Switch tender Frederick Sullivan, who has been railroading for three years, and who was the primary cause of the accident, testified that the night of the mishap was his first night at the job, and he had only been shown how to do the work once before going on duty. He gave evidence that he thought he was doing right in letting the train out on the London division. Every witness pronounced the night an exceptionally stormy one, and Engineer William Newcombe of Toronto attributed this fact to his failure to discern the signal light as he passed on to the London west-bound track. The verdict of the just wa that "The cause of the collision we attribute to the gross carelessness of employees of the Grand Trunk system, and severely censure the Grand Trunk Railway for placing careless and incompetent men in charge at so important a point as the tunnel yards." --End-- Marg in Sunny Alberta Glen Johnson wrote:

    3. Glen: Google for a newspaper in Sarnia and see what comes up. Some have an Archives, some will search for a small fee.
