Hi all, Just to mention that I recently found two British Home Children who were living with a cousin of mine. One was adopted by the family, but the other retained his own name. I found them on this site : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~britishhomechildren/ Perry Snow who is the creator, helped me verify that these were the correct children. Now to find out what happened to them. One was in the military as I found his attestation papers. I am wondering if anyone has any connection to them? The names were: Charles HANN b. 1903 Middlesex, England. Came to Canada 1911 aboard the Tunisia - retained his own name James Harris WOODWORTH b. Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. Came to Canada 1909 aboard the Corsican - adopted Both were Bernardo Children and lived with Robert J. & Mary (Nevils) CARR. As mentioned, Charles retained his own name and James was adopted, using his adoptive name CARR. They lived in Elmvale ON. I took a photo of the Carr tombstone a couple of years ago, but no sign of the boys. Dawn (Smyth) Hicks _____ avast! Antivirus <http://www.avast.com> : Outbound message clean. There are many clues you can use besides clothing. In fact dating men's clothing is extremely difficult, but other clues such as size of photo, photographer's mark on the verso (back) etc can indicate timeframes You can identify ancestor photos by understanding the Types of Early Photographs and during what time period each was used. http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/photos/photo-types.shtml will get you started. Is anyone on this list tracing the STANDISH family that immigrated from Tipperary, Ireland, please? Bonnie
I have come to the conclusion based on the following info that Jacob, Andrew and Joseph were brothers. There is a sister Lydia. And I am sure there are other siblings as well, and maybe a Mary. _RootsWeb: ROSZELL-L [ROSZELL-L] Obediah (Obadiah) Roszel_ (http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/ROSZELL/2001-04/0987126584) The following Roswell's are buried in Zion United Cemetery Windham Twp, Norfolk County, Ontario Roswell, Andrew, d. 31 Oct 1890, 80 yrs Roswell, Edward H., d. ? ??? 1870, 7 y, 10 m, 27 d, son/o Andrew & Mary Roswell Roswell, Ellen, d. 31 Aug 1855, 1 y, 6 m, dau/o Andrew & Mary Roswell Roswell, George A., d. 30 Oct 1863, 4 y, 8 m, 24 d, son/o A. & M. Roswell Roswell, Harriet, d. 10 Mar 1866, 51 y, 7 m, 18 d, w/o Joseph Roswell Roswell, Mary (Edmond), d. 31 Dec 1872, 49 y, w/o Andrew Roswell Roswell, Mary, d. 19 Jan 1874, w/o Jacob Roswell Roswell, Sarah, d. 2? Aug 18??, 81 y, 3 mons (date is 25 Aug 1853) I think Sarah Roswell so died 24 Aug 1853 is the wife of Obadiah and mother of Jacob, Joseph, Andrew and Lydia. Dot
I also would be very interested in any information for Obadiah Rozel. Sarah Roszel and Peter Beemer are my 4th g grandparents, their son, Philip Roszel Beemer, my 3rd g grandfather. On the 1851-2 census, Townsend Twp., Norfolk County, living with or next to Philip Roszel Beemer and his wife Sophia Sovereign, is their son, Francis Beemer, his wife Margaret Smith and their son George. Next to Francis and Margaret is the family of Gilbert Smith and wife Mary. I believe but cannot prove, that they are the parents to Margaret Smith, wife of Francis Beemer. Now the interesting fact here is, that from the death registration for Thomas Smith, son to Gilbert Smith and wife Mary, is the fact that Thomas' mother's name is shown as Mary Roswell. Gilbert Smith and wife Mary Roswell are interred at Zion United Church Cemetery in Windham Twp., as are several Roswell. It appears to me to be very possible that Mary is a sibling to Jacob, Andrew and Joseph Roswell. Thank you Donna
Hi: I am looking for information on Obadiah Rozel who came to Canada with his uncle Charles Rozel about 1800 from the United States. I am looking for information as to who he married and his children. I have three Rozel (Roswell): Jacob, Andrew and Joseph who I think are brothers. Have their wives and descendents but need the name of Jacob, Andrew and Joseph's father. I think it might be Obadiah. Joseph Roswell was living about three lots away from Philip Beemer (s/o Peter Beemer and wife Sarah Rozel) and his wife Sophie in Townsend in 1861. In 1852, there was a Peter Beemer, age 20, living with or next to Andrew and Mary Roswell in Windham Township, Norfolk. Philip Beemer was the son of Philip Beemer and his wife Sophie. Obadiah Rozell was brother to Sarah Rozell who was married to Peter Beemer. They also moved from New Jersey to Ontario I think. Thank you, Dot
