It is pilot.familysearch.org
On the map that lists the owners and land grants of Saltfleet Wentworth Co. there is a plot with the name "Hannah Cowell" and the year of the grant is 1802. It is beside the London property. If anyone can help with who Hannah Cowell was I would appreciate it. I am trying to put the Cowells listed in the 1851 census into a possible family. Peggy Large UE "I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead" thanks to Jimmy Buffett!
I just looked at the 1990 census and it appears that Jacob came over in 1868 and that he was naturalized. It does not mean that 1868 was the year he was naturalized, just that he immigrated over here at that time and did get his papers sometime prior to 1900. Louisa it looks like came over in 1866, two years before Jacob. And she was probably naturalized under her husband Jacob as back then the family was automatically included as far as I know. Dot
I found a marriage for a Jacob Fountain 22, born Canada to a Lora Hill on 15 Mar 1868 in Bridgehampton, Sanilac, Michigan There was also a Jacob Fountain listed as 17 years living in Fenelon, Victoria, Ontario, Canada on the 1861 census. I don't have access to the census to see the actual family he was with. Dot
I found a marriage for Jacob Fountain & Lora Hill March 15, 1868 in Sanalac Co. MI. She was 16-he 22. Hello Dee and all subscribers I really appreciate that Dee gave us a very detailed outline of her problem and her family details. It was very well presented! However I would really appreciate it if those responding to Dee about ANY part of her email that is NOT in ONTARIO -- would do so privately. The Ontario bit is below, please do feel free to respond here on the Ontario mailing list with ideas and help for Dee regarding the Ontario portion *only* It just will get far too confusing if we all start writing to a list whose topic is ONTARIO with helpful ideas for searching in Michigan or New York or Quebec or...... you get the picture I'm sure :-) Dee, best of luck with your quest and feel free to submit it to [email protected] for inclusion on the AskOliveTree.blogspot.com free blog. You mention two adopted children living with the family, but not with the family surname. I wonder if they were British Home Children. If no luck with any resource, suggest you enroll with [email protected] And ask if the children might be. Yhe information you gave meets the criteria. If you don't know about home children, look them up on Google for the subject. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Stella Stanger Sent: Tuesday, April 06, 2010 4:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] Help with what FOUNTAN,LaFOUNTAIN, HILL,. . Hi Dee, Wish I could be of help - but - a few thoughts. 1. Re differences in BiRTH YEARS - on various CENSUS Unlike today - some people may not have known their birth date they may know the aprox - year - or guess at the aprox. year./month. 2. REGISTRATION of DEATH - is only as accurate - as the information known to the informant - which - may at times be way off. * eg. my uncles son in law was the informant on his registration of death - in the 1960's He had the name -correct - but to this day - we don't know where he found the name of the mother - ?? a surname not known to any family members . The given name - not one shown in any family information. He does not remember - where or why he gave that name. - the records are therefor not correct. It would cost $50 to have this amended - The 5 daughters and 3 sons - did no want to pay the fee. and I am not allowed to. 3.CERTIFICATE of INTENT- will probably the most accurate one - since it is an official document - Rather than family history/stories/ beliefs . - which can be incorrect. Certificate of Intent - would this be an application for Citizenship. **Citizenship Papers - the same ? - if not - have you searched State Archive for Michigan - or National Archive in Washington DC - for Citizenship. This may? show names of parents - date and place of birth - hopefully the correct date - and actual place of birth. 4. Marriages of Children: Marriage Registration of the children - will show the names of parents - place of birth of parents - may show actual place - or Canada - may be worth a search. I am lucky enough to possess my grandfather's Declaration of Intent. At Detroit, he renounced his allegiance to Queen Victoria of Great Britain. Yes, it was his express intent to become an American citizen. However, he never did, so I'm guessing he literally was the man without a country. Would like to hear a legal opinion on that. My grandfather was permitted to vote after his renunciation of Britain. Other information on this person I obtained from the Immigration and Naturlization Office which, when I was there, was on East Jefferson in Det roit. I have no idea where it is now held. If you are in the States, I'd check first with your federal senator. Senators have staffs who have access of how to find "stuff like that." I've used them occasionally. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Stella Stanger Sent: Tuesday, April 06, 2010 4:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] Help with what FOUNTAN,LaFOUNTAIN, HILL,. . BUT - my memory says that it might have been a Hill. Could she have changed her given name? No parents names on the record. I'm asking for suggestions for where to go next, and what my priorities should be, in order to find Jacob and Louisa in Canada. Your ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Dee Sager Neosho, Missouri USA
Have you posted to Michigan, to Quebec - Mail Lists - or Message Boards. Message boards you will only receive response to your posting. Wishing you much luck with your research> Cheers, Stella At 12:28 PM 06/04/2010, you wrote: >Hi Listers, > >I'm at a loss. Hello Everyone Hoping someone can help me find an obiturary for MARY PATTON TAIT wife of WILLIAM LAMONT TAIT she is suppose to have died in 1890 at the age of 64 -------- born Scotland -------- trying to see if her brother Robert Patton was still alive appreciate anything anyone may have on her Thank you all Susan Toledo Ohio USA
Susan, Can you give an indication where Mary and William were living. Also, did Robert Patton reside in Ontario? Was he married? There is a Robert Pattan born circa 1830 living in Perth as per the 1881 Census. There is an 1889 Ontario death registration stating birth place as Scotland. Hi Sharon, I am not sure what years have been released and put on Ancestry but last time I checked (and i could be wrong) the births for 1930 hadn't been released yet ( i jsut checked and they won't be available for Ontario for quite some time. check out the link: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canon/research-year-1930.html#available ) If you do want a copy you will have to fill out the form for the General Registrars office, provide proof of relationship, have a guarantor sign and be able to pay then have the patience to wait for them. Hope this helps. Hello List, Could anyone who has Ancestry tell me if you can find births for the year 1930 on it. If so would it just be the info or a copy of the certificate. Thankyou in advance for your help. Sharon
Hi Sharon, Birth Certificates/ Short form Birth Certificate - is an extract of basic information taken from the Registration of Birth . Long form includes all personal information required at the time. http://www.ontario.ca/en/information_bundle/individuals/119276 Birth Registrations - are considered Private - This differs in each Province. In British Columbia - the Birth Registrations are Private - till the 121st year after the event. The following for Ontario. it appears that the Registrations are available to 1912 - 1913 available this year. http://www.ontario.ca/en/information_bundle/individuals/119276 You may be able to Order - the Registration of Death - from Govt Of Ontario - Vital Statistics Dept. Is there anything known of David Bowman FORRESTER (1893-1974), Janet GODFRED (nee FORRESTER) b. 1895 or Samuel White FORRESTER (1903-1990); all were born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire (Scotland). The family was for many years settled in Niagara Falls? Regards, Janet.
Thank you for checking Anne, very much appreciated.
