I've just learned that the Library and Archives Canada has started adding service files to the Soldiers of the First World War database at http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php (note the new box for Digitized files). There are 435 files online now. There are also a number online with the Lest We Forget Project at (For WWI) http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/cenotaph/025009-1110.01-e.html and (For WW2) http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/cenotaph/025009-1110.02-e.html Annette

This long established, free-access National Site is proud to announce that there are more than 600 cemeteries completely photographed and onboard, amounting to over 350,000 searchable photographs. There have been over 580,000 visitors to the site. Each day there are over 200 folks browsing the site and there are over 10,000 name searches each month. * 3. This site is not "Sponsored" and therefore does not "dance to some company's tune" and will remain that way. However, there are some moderate expenses involved and donations of funds or gas cards by visitors certainly do help with gasoline to reach unphotographed cemeteries. * 4. Marg....... you are simply a gem! I've plowed through Ancestry and other sites for the longest time and thought I had used every possible name alteration, but never came up with anything that connected. But you did - you sure did! Hello, This morning I was looking on-line for information on a small town in New Brunswick, and came across this web site. It seems to be a long list of soldiers from World War I which had a connection to the Province of Ontario: http://airforce.ca/uploads/airforce/2009/07/gong-6m-n.html The list seems to only include surnames which start with "M" - perhaps there is more information for other surnames. I just decided to find more information about that web site and found this: http://airforce.ca/uploads/airforce/2009/07/ Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) FYI: Someone on a New Brunswick List was looking for information on ships built by 2 men with STORM and KING names from early 1800's. Their shipyard seemed to be in Sand Point, NB, and I found out, while searching there is a Sand Point in the Prov. of Ontario and in Washington State. Then I found a connection to the Town of Refrew, and that name is also in other parts of Canada. Now researching the STORM name is difficult because I keep finding sites mentioning "there's a storm brewin'" or about a storm which had hit. :o)

Hi Listers: Chasing this family for a long time to see if they are part of my maternal Conlin family but with no luck; hope someone can find them. Looking for marriage of Rose(Rosa/Rosabel) Conlin b. abt 1868, York, ON & sister Ellen b. abt 1871, York, ON. daughters of Henry Conlin & Julia A. unknown. Toronto City Directory shows Henry alive c. 1873-74 but thereafter Julia is a widow. Julia A. Conlin, widow of Henry, living in St.David's Ward for 1871, 1881 Census, with two daughters Rosabel & Ellen. 1891 Census places the family in St-Patrick's Ward and shows them as Methodist when previously they were RC. I can't find them in 1901, nor can I find any marriage entries for any of them. Your help and/or suggestions are most appreciated. Cheers! Hi All! And especially to all those descendants of Pierre MORIN-dit-BOUCHER and Marie MARTIN who have communicated with me over the years. I realize its been quite some time and I still havent gotten through all the wonderful sources, references, etc. sent to me as much as a couple of years ago but I just wanted everyone to know that Im still slowly working my way through them, and Ill eventually get to yours and communicate again. Not to make excuses, but Ive gone through a lot of very painful episodes over the last couple of years with my kidneys and prostate which have kept me much slower over sometimes many months at a time. But Im starting to feel better now so you should begin to notice something soon. I thought Pierre and Maries descendants would be interested in this: http://morintrek.ning.com/ Its a Trek being run by Gérard BOYER (Gerard - 1st e accented*) who lives fairly close to the Antoine MORIN (my G-GPa) property and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is connected through Antoines son Philippe and grandson George and was born in Rockland (which is where my maternal GPa was born) and grew up there and in Cumberland. For you English-only individuals, he is also a fully bilingual French-English-Canadien and will handle translation problems (along with others who will show up Im sure) during the trek through Quebec and the Maritimes to Annapolis-Royal. Personally Im still in the situation where Im trying to determine if my own health is good enough yet to attempt this, so I havent confirmed yet. At the moment my wife doesnt feel Im able so I guess it depends on whether I listen to her or not/believe her or not. Al Doherty (Mother was a MORIN) Pickering, Ontario, Canada P.S. * Ive started to note French accented words as above because of the mangling some servers the messages go through do to the language. Id suggest others on the list do the same.

Thanks Cheryle. I've used that census many times and yes, Dehart, Vancise and Herrick are all included. Incidentally, it is reproduced in full in the appendix of "Markham 1793-1900", published in 1979 by the Markham District Historical Society. There are actually quite a few families listed that didn't remain in the township - ie: Prentice, Busch, Dehart. Steve, you should read up on the Berczy Settlers, maybe you have? I too have family from that era. Berczy took a Census The page I have is for my family , Wunsch(Wonch) so I don't have the full Census of 1803 but it sounds like the same time frame and they maybe possible listed on it. My copy, page of the 1803 C does list your Frederick Henrick age 47 . Wife is listed as Mary Louisa 40 , son Christian and daughters Polly and Louisa ages cut off. Hi Janice Sorry for the delayed response. I was out of town at the Ontario Genealogical Society's Annual Conference. Your question about the Canadian Kilties caught my eye and I went quickly to unpack my stock of ephemera. I found an item that may be of interest to you. It's a program titled "Official Concert Tour of Canada's Crack Military Band" - "Gordon Highlanders The Kilties of Canada". . Undated but probably early 1900s. It talks about tours in 1900, 1901 and 1902, so may be a little earlier than your connection. It does include photographs of some of the band members, but not your guy :-(. However, if you think it might be of interest, I would be happy to photocopy it and send it to you. Feel free to contact me off list.
