    1. [ONTARIO] FRIENDS
    2. Shirl
    3. I need to take this moment and say a big Thank You to all my wonderful genealogy friends in this Ontario group that have helped me out from time to time. So often you gals and guys have come to my rescue and I am not sure whether I do get back to always says thanks. I form time to time am away from my compueter due to illness; and once was away for about 18 plus months. Then when I do get back to my genalosy work; I can loose track of those that I need to say thanks to. You all are the greatest bunch of people and I say "Hats Off" to all. I want you to know your input and help is so much appreciated. I do want to right now say a special thanks to everyone who replies to my inquiries re my hubby's great grandmother Ann Piercy. My Hubby was so delighted and so was I to then find an actual Piercy Tree; it took me back to Earls and Counts and Castles and so many exciting places and photos and information. My dear hubby is in the direct line of all these Piercy's. Then I decide to research further a Lady Marionone of my Hubby'sGreat"S; Grandmother's and took her back. Turns out she goes directly back to King John ( Robin Hood LOL) and King Richard I, ii, and IIl. So I got rather carried away and forgot to come back here and thank those who got me started on this wonderful trail. We had already on his father's side gone back well beyond Sir John Deacon Done. Just to add a bit of humour to all of this I have always called my hubby who is John; "JohnBoy" Now I tease him and call him Sir JohnBoy. LOL Thanks again to each and all of you who so often help me and others too. Happy Searching Shirl

    3. In some Ontario cemeteries, infants have been buried in baby plots as set aside by the Anglican Church. A great aunt of mine died within a few days of birth and was buried at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines about 1907. There is no burial marker. Possibly other denominations did the same for their parishioners. 3. Hi Doreen, Not everyone published a birth announcement . Many that did appear in the classified section of the newspapers - sometimes only mentioned that a child had been born to eg: Mr. and Mrs. [Surname]. The ones that I have searched for others sometimes mention the name of the child - very seldom had the given names of both parents. Birth announcements published int he Social Pages at the time - re birth or Christening may have more information. The average family seldom had the funds to post in that section. Did Sandra marry ? - In Ontario? - There may be a marriage announcement in the classifieds - Sandra - daughter of [may mention the given names ] You know that Sandra {Alexandra?]DUNCAN - moved to BC.in the 1970's? Do you have contact with her ? - Cheers, Stella >----- Original Message ----- >From: "D O'" <[email protected]> >To: <[email protected]> >Sent: Friday, June 04, 2010 10:25 PM >Subject: [ONTARIO] Newspaper lookup for Duncan in Stratford ON > > > > > > > > > > Would anyone have access to old newspapers for Stratford, Ontario? > > > > > > > > I need details of a birth announcement in order to find the parents of > > Sandra (Alexandra?) 3. Hello Shirl, You can track down the names of the family by getting the obituary of Josephine and then other members of the family mentioned in the online Toronto Star archives. See http://pagesofthepast.ca/ This database may also be available through your local library. Her parents were Thomas Skidmore and Selina/Selena McIllwrath. I found the obits for Josephine in 1991 and her mother April 1 1965. There are probably others there for the family. There was no mention of the 1937 wedding but there was one for her sister Annette April 30 1940. Mrs Earl Terry was matron of honour. Then you can find the parents on Ancestry in the passenger records. Selina b abt 1888 arrived in 1913 from Glasgow Scotland with 2 children Thomas and Albert to join her husband. Thomas had arrived July 1912 from Glasgow to join brother. Thomas' Canadian attestation papers for WWI say he was born in Liverpool in 1887.
