    3. Sher where my husband is buried in Combermere Ontario they have a section roped off for the scattering of ashes. People can then have their name added to a plaque signifying whose ashes have been scattered there if they so desire. I understand that there are other cemeteries who have scattering sections within. It is so common for people to keep urns of dear ones in their home for an indefinite time and some take them to their cottage and scatter them there on the lake, river etc. or just leave them in their home and pass them on to other family members with no burial at all taking place and the ashes once again sitting on a mantel or in the closet. 3. Hi Brian: Just got home from holidays and found your e-mail re the Ontario Archivist. Why is he/she resigning. You are such an knowledgeable person it would be in our best interests to have you as the Ontario Archivist. With most people working it is difficult for people to make the trip to York during hours of Mon-Fri with no Weekends or evening hours. So I would hope you could entice this new facility to reconsider their hours of operation. Please think about it. We need you there. V.M. 2. How about it Brian?  But then we would lose our Archivist from Brampton.   Maybe one of the first things that should be on the new Archivist agenda is extending the hours.  Currently no evenings or weekends.  Thats OK for some, but not for a lot of us who are not available during business hours Monday to Friday.   Janet --- On Wed, 7/14/10, Susan Edwards <[email protected]> wrote: From: Susan Edwards <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] Gilchrist news flash ... Hi List: This is us!!: - During an ice storm and power outage, you ignore the pleas of your shivering spouse and place your last quilt around that 1886 photograph of dear Uncle George. - Ed McMahon, several TV cameras and an envelope from Publishers Clearing House arrive at your front door on Super Bowl Sunday, and the first thing you say is, "Are you related to the McMahons of Ohio?" - The local genealogy society borrows books from you. - "A Loving Family" and "Financial Security" have moved up to second and third, respectively, on your list of life's goals, but still lag far behind "Owning My Own Microfilm Reader." - A magical genie appears and agrees to grant your any one wish, and you ask that the 1921 census be released on schedule. - More than half of your CD collection is made up of marriage records or pedigrees. - The only film you've seen in the last year was the 1880 census index. - You are the only person to show up at the cemetery research party with a shovel. - You can recite your lineage back eight generations, but can't remember your nephew's name. - You decided to take a two-week break from genealogy, and Canada Post immediately laid off 1,500 employees. - You have more photographs of dead people than living ones. - You introduce your daughter as your descendent. - You plod merrily along "refining" your recently published family history, blissfully unaware that the number of errata pages now far exceeds the number of pages in your original publication. - Your house leans slightly toward the side where your genealogical records are stored. - You've never met any of the people you send e-mails to, even though you're related. - You've not only read the latest GEDCOM standard, but also you understand it. At the Canadian Gravemarker Gallery, which is online at: http://gravemarkers.ca ..we can accommodate unlimited numbers of photographs of complete cemeteries from anywhere in Canada. The photographers and/or organizations are given credit on the website for their interest and hard work. * 2. This long established, free-access National Site is proud to announce that there are more than 600 cemeteries completely photographed and onboard, amounting to over 350,000 searchable photographs. There have been over 580,000 visitors to the site. Each day there are over 200 folks browsing the site and there are over 10,000 name searches each month. * 3. This site is not "Sponsored" and therefore does not "dance to some company's tune" and will remain that way. However, there are some moderate expenses involved and donations of funds or gas cards by visitors certainly do help with gasoline to reach unphotographed cemeteries. * 4. If you have family or friends anywhere in Canada, who may be interested in photographing their local cemeteries, please inform them of the availability of The Canadian Gravemarker Gallery. Their photographed cemeteries will have world wide exposure on this National Cemetery website. * 5. If you and/or your organization is interested in your local cemeteries going online, please contact Murray P l e t s c h at: [email protected] or [email protected] - there are no cemeteries too big or too small...! * 6. A comprehensive "Tips and Hints" brochure can be sent to all interested folks....to help them get started photographing entire cemeteries. * * SUBSCRIBING TO THE WEBSITE UPDATES NEWSLETTER: ******************************************** * Don't miss future monthly updates. Subscribe to the automatic Gravemarker Galleries Newsletter. Please go to the Website at: http://www.gravemarkers.ca and click on the "Join Updates Newsletter" button located just above the weather row. * * HELPFUL HINTS: ************* * 1. Cemeteries online have spousal duplicated photographs. This means a photo of a stone which also has the spouse's maiden name showing, is duplicated and when one searches using the onboard search engine, for a surname, the spouse's surname will be reported as a separate "search result". * 2. If your "search engine" keyword is the same as a city, town, village, township then please read the valuable tip below: * A. *CONCERN:* If your "search engine" keyword you are using is say: pembrok* then your search will pick up all the pembroke surnames....*BUT* ...it will also pick up all the website pages where pembroke is used as a heading or meta name. * B. *SOLUTION:* Change your keyword to: pembrok1 and the search engine will only pick up the gravemarkers with the pembroke surname. * 3. If you don't see a Community and its' cemeteries online...it means a volunteer has not photographed and sent me the cemetery photographs. Can you or some of your family or friends help out by photographing the missing cemeteries....? * * FEEDBACK ******* * We are always interested in feedback from Visitors. If you have any questions or suggestions to improve the Canadian Gravemarker Gallery please do not hesitate to send your concerns or suggestions to: [email protected] * * ********************************************* Warmest regards...........Murray P l e t s c h * Cdn Gravemarker Gallery - http://gravemarkers.ca * Ont Historic Gallery - http://rootsweb.com/~cannor *
