Dickinson mentions two O'Neals. Colbert O'NEAL was the leader of Class No. 1 of the Society of Belpre in 1842. He was instrumental in building the first Methodist church in Belpre. Joseph O'NEAL was the leader of a Methodist church class in Belpre in 1822. The books state that this information "was presented in a paper delivered by Mrs. C.L. O'NEAL at a Semi-Centennial Celebration in the village church." Betsy O'Neal married my gg grandfather, Benjamin Franklin STONE II in Belpre, Ohio in abt. 1830. They had nine children: Susan Esther, Rufus, Elizabeth, Milton, Charles W., Eunice, Robert R., Ezra, and Joseph. Kris >> Kristin, (that is my daughter's name too) I am part of the O'Neals of Maryland who trace back to John O'NEAL(1747-?) of the Sugarland Hundred near Poolesville, in Frederick (later Montgomery) Co MD. His son Joseph O'NEAL, b.1766 in St. Mary's Co MD, "moved to what was called the Green Brier Country in new Virginia" about 1780. This became Greenbrier County WV. I do not have my notes close at hand, but I believe he went to Ohio, possibly Jefferson Co. I grew up in Jefferson Co (Wintersville, Ohio) and visited my grandparents for many years in Marietta. I have been to Belpre years ago and am very familiar with Washington Co. There could be a link here. Do you have any other information on your Joseph O'Neal? Place of birth, etc. Bob O'Neal in Tacoma WA
