    3. I'm new to the list and wanted to submit my O'Neals in hopes I will connect somewhere. I just recently discovered the O'Neal trail while hunting for MOORE's. As an adoptee, I find so many unknown paths that it is easy to get lost. My maternal great-grandmother is Clara O'neal, born in Sebastian County, Arkansas in 1876. Her grandfather was originally from Tenneessee and great grandfather from Virginia. Any help as I begin my O'Neal research would be greatly appreciated. So far, I have found a couple of sites with a few O'Neals. Generation No. 1 1. FATHER1 O'NEAL was born in Virginia of Irish parents. Was a Revolutionary War veteran. Child of FATHER O'NEAL is 2. i. WILEY2 O'NEAL, b. 1810, Bedford Co, Tenn; d. 1884, Texas. Generation No. 2 2. WILEY2 O'NEAL (FATHER1) was born 1810 in Bedford Co, Tenn, and died 1884 in Texas. He married PHEBE LARUE, daughter of FATHER LARUE. Notes for WILEY O'NEAL: He was born and raised on a farm in Bedford County, Tenn. During the later war he served in the Confederate Army. After being discharged in the Indian Territory he went to Texas, where he immigrated in 1860, and there died in 1884, age 74. Notes for PHEBE LARUE: Parents were Virginia natives, with her father immigrating to Tenn in his early days. Children of WILEY O'NEAL and PHEBE LARUE are: 3. i. JOHN L.3 O'NEAL, b. December 26, 1834, Bedford County,Tennessee. ii. JASPER N. O'NEAL. iii. ANDREW J. O'NEAL. iv. TENNESSEE C. O'NEAL. v. R. J. O'NEAL. vi. MARY E. O'NEAL. vii. WILEY I. B. O'NEAL. viii. WILLIAM T. O'NEAL. ix. JAMES M. O'NEAL. x. CLARA E. O'NEAL. xi. INFANT O'NEAL. Generation No. 3 3. JOHN L.3 O'NEAL (WILEY2, FATHER1)1 was born December 26, 1834 in Bedford County,Tennessee2. He married NANCY M. JOHNSON2 January 30, 1856 in Newton County, MO2. Notes for JOHN L. O'NEAL: He received a common school education. He lived in Tenn until Oct 15, 1854 when he immigrated to Newton County, MO. A year later he settled in Franklin County, Ark, where Charleston later grew. In 1855 there were but few white settlers, and there were few schools and churches. He farmed there until Sep 1861. He then went to Texas and enlisted in Company D, 13th Texas Volunteer Infantry, serving until the close of the war on station duty on the Brazos River. He then farmed in Van Zandt County until 1868, after which he was a resident of Sebastian County, Ark. He owned 160 acres of land, 80 being cultivated, and was exclusively engaged in agriculture. 1900 census states he could read & write; was a farmer; born in Tennessee as were both his parents; and owned his farm free of any mortgage. All the other O'Neals and his son-in-law, Ray Smith (Clara's Husband), list themselves as renters on John's farm. Was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church over 38 years (wife also member). Was a strong Democrat and served two terms as school director, although not desirous of public office. Children of JOHN O'NEAL and NANCY JOHNSON are: 4. i. PINKNEY A.4 O'NEAL, b. December 1866, Texas. 5. ii. CLARA T. O'NEAL, b. May 1876, Arkansas. 6. iii. ROBERT L. O'NEAL, b. April 17, 1871, Arkansas; d. September 17, 1951, Buried Oak Valley Cemetery, Ft Chaffey, Ark. 7. iv. JAMES (JIM) T. O'NEAL, b. August 1874, Arkansas. v. PHEBE E. O'NEAL. vi. MINNIE L. O'NEAL2, b. August 1880, Arkansas2. 8. vii. RUFUS A. O'NEAL, b. April 1877, Tennessee. Generation No. 4 4. PINKNEY A.4 O'NEAL (JOHN L.3, WILEY2, FATHER1)3 was born December 1866 in Texas. He married (1) UNKNOWN. He married (2) SUE 1899. Notes for PINKNEY A. O'NEAL: 1900 shows him as a renter of the farm Sebastian County, Ark, could read & write no formal education Notes for SUE: 1900 census shows married only one year and that she has not given birth to any children, although the family has a 9, 7, and 5 year old. This indicates that she was not the first wife or mother of PINKNEY's children. She could read & write but had no formal school. Children of PINKNEY O'NEAL and UNKNOWN are: i. ELMER E. O'NEAL, b. June 1890, Arkansas. ii. ROY O'NEAL, b. August 1892, Arkansas. iii. BUEL O'NEAL, b. July 1894, Arkansas. iv. CLOUTHY O'NEAL b. Abt. 1901. v. PEARL O'NEAL, b. Abt. 1908 vi. MERLE O'NEAL, b. Abt. 1909. 5. CLARA T. O'NEAL (JOHN L.3, WILEY2, FATHER1) was born May 1876 in Arkansas. She married RAY J. SMITH November 16, 1890 in Sebastian County, Arkansas, son of RICHARD S. SMITH. Notes for CLARA T. O'NEAL: The 1900 census shows both of her parents are from TN, but the 1910 census list her mother from MO. The 1900 census shows Ray & Clara living in Beverly Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas. Ray is listed as a farmer, as are all the adult males listed on the 3 pages before and the three pages after his name. These pages obviously reflect farm families, each indicate they are living on an active farm. It is interesting to note that out of six farm families listed in a row, all are O'Neals except Ray Smith. All six families were related to Clara. The oldest listed family member is a 65 year old John L. O'Neal and he was Clara's father. The other O'Neal families living in and around them are Clara's brother's. The brother "JIM" was remembered by Ivan Otis Moore as about Granny Smith (Clara's) age. A James is confirmed on the census, is 1 year older than Clara and is likely the same person Ivan Otis remembers. Notes for RAY J. SMITH: The 1900 census shows that he spoke English and could read but not write. The 1910 census said he could not read or write. Both showed him as a farmer. The 1900 census shows Ray's dad from Alabama and doesn't list anything for his mom. The 1910 census lists his dad from Arkansas and mom from "United States". 1910 still shows living as renter on farm in Beverly Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas (different farm number). Shows he can not read or write. Children of CLARA O'NEAL and RAY SMITH are: i. STELLA5 SMITH, b. September 1892, Arkansas; m. CRIPPS. ii. ALLIE SMITH, b. August 1894, Arkansas; d. Van Buren, Ar. iii. He married ALICE D. 1896. Child of ROBERT O'NEAL and ALICE D. is: i. JULIUS O.5 O'NEAL, b. October 16, 1897, Arkansas; d. January 11, 1920, Buried Oak Valley Cemetery, Ft Chaffey, Ark. 7.
