It has been a while since these were mentioned on this list, so while everyone else is listing their Johns, here is another. My g-g-g-grandfather, Andrew O'Neal, was born in the early 1800's and came to the US in the late 1820's from Dublin Ireland. I suspect the family was from Co. Wicklow. He was supposed to have had a brother named Peter who went to South America and a brother named John who settled in the US. The first record of Andrew is in Rabun Co. GA. From there he went to McMinn Co. TN and finally to Marion Co. TN, where he died and is buried. Could any Johns out there possibly be this one? j-waites@juno.com
Hello all, Thought I would jump into this feeding frenzy of O'Neill's looking for the parents of my John Henry O'Neill. He was born in the US in 1863, parents unknown. On the 1901 census (Brockville, Ontario) he quoted his birth year and immigration year both as 1863! He became a naturalized Canadian in 1895 a year after my grandmother was born. All we have so far is the date of birth and that he married Frances Elizabeth Barker (from Ontario) and had 2 daughters. However.... now it gets interesting. He (evidently) worked the railroads in the US, one being a rail line from Ogdensburg, NY. He had relatives (cousins etc.) in NY that my Aunt can remember my grandmother talking about. Supposedly there were some O'Neill's in Vaudeville and he was related to them as well. It is family history (theory!) that he also worked the rail line out of St. Louis and that is where he met his wife Frances. If we use the naming history then Frances' mother would have been Margaret (my grandmother's name) and John's mothers name would have been Anna (daughter # 2). It is also thought John's fathers name was Daniel.... therefore his parents could be a Daniel and Anna (Nancy?) O'Neill. This is all guess work so far.... :o) Also, on the census he states that both of his parents were born in Ireland. Can someone help unmuddy the waters? Thanks! Sharon
