Submitted by James E. Hargraves PART 4, JOHN FROST; Descendants of John Frost Generation No. 1 1. JOHN1 FROST was born Abt. 1710, and died Bet. 1754 - 1755 in Frederick Co., Virginia. He married MARY TAYLOR Abt. 1733 in Frederick Co., Virginia. She was born Abt. 1710, and died Aft. 1775 in South Carolina. Notes for JOHN FROST: [Hargraves 2.FTW] John Frost only appears twice in the Quaker records, but he does appear several times in the Frederick County, Virginia records. His family must have traveled to South Carolina with William O'Neill and his family in 1765. His wife Mary and son Jonathan are recorded on land deeds for the years 1772 to 1774. There is no record that any of the O'Neills were Quakers except William O'Neill, who may have opted for his wifes' religion (Mary Frost), and so, became a Quaker just prior to his marriage, otherwise the marriage would not have been accepted by The Society of Friends. Only Sarah of the other chilren of John and Mary Frost are included in Quaker records, who are reported to be; Grace, Jonathan and James. If indeed William O'Neill did choose his wifes' religion, then the opposite may be true of Grace Frost, who may have opted for the religion of her husband John O'Neill, who undoubtedly was not Quaker. it appears that Grace (Frost) O'Neill died about 1774 in South Carolina. The last record that we have of John Frost is a land sale which was recorded October 21, 1754 as a Fairfax Grant. Although John Frost is listed as the father of Sarah Frost in the Quaker records of her marriage, June 26, 1755, John does not seem to have attended and only Mary Frost is shown in the list of 27 witnesses. John Frost may have died 1753/1754, since he does not seem to participate in any functions of the Quakers, whereas, Mary and Sarah Frost are active in the Society. (Quaker records) Will Book A, Union County, South Carolina; January court 1797, 2nd day. Will of Mary Frost proved by James Benson Senr. (widow of Jonathon Frost); Will of Mary Frost of Union County.....all my goods and chattels be sold by my executors, except one gourd to my daughter Rebecca Frost; the money arising from the sale to be divided amongst my children as followeth; to my son John Frost, 1 shilling; to my daughter Sarah Williams, 1 shilling; to my daughter Mary Frost, 1 shilling; remainder divided equally between my four youngest children; Barnet, Elizabeth, Rachel and William to be paid to them when they come of full age; my brother James Benson and Jesse Young and James Townsend, Executors....25 December 1796. Mary Frost (seal), Witness: Eleander Brown (X), James Benson Senr. (+), Elizabeth Benson (X). The will of James Benson, 20 April 1799, Union County, South Carolina includes .....my four grandchildren John Frost, Sarah Williams and their two sisters Mary and Rebeckah, 5 shillings each. Frost is a rare surname and yet the Frost and O'Neill families are connected in records of Frederick County, Virginia as well as Newberry County and Union County, South Carolina. The land of James Benson, father of Mary (Benson) Frost is near that of the Harris and O'Neill families in northwest Union County, South Carolina. Land deeds are recorded for James Benson by Joseph McJunkin J.P., a known neighbor of the Harris and O'Neill families. July 2 and 3, 1773, Grace Frost is witness to a land deed by John and Sarah Pearson to Samuel Campbell in Union County, South Carolina. This land deed was recorded April 2, 1798 by Hugh Means J.P., known to be a neighbor of the Harris and O'Neill families. The land deed was for 100 acres on Dry Branch of the Tygar River in Berkley County, South Carolina, an original land grant to John Pearson on October 17, 1772. Thomas O'Neill, brother of John O'Neill, was married to a Miss Pearson. Thomas O'Neill also migrated to South Carolina and died in Parkins, South Carolina in 1779. John Pearson was witness to the will of James Benson, father of Mary (Benson) Frost. This Grace Frost is not identified as yet. It is unclear whether Grace Frost witnessed the original sale in 1773 or the recorded deed of 1798. More About JOHN FROST: Fact: 1730, Opeckan (Hopewell) Monthly Meeting, Va.
