Hi DeWayne, Here is a passage from the book (mentioned below) by John Perry Alderman, "A James Oneal acquired 200 acres on Pauls Creek, near the Goodspur, and lived on it for a time. He was still in the county in 1810 when that territory, which had been a part of Patrick, was added to Grayson (Virginia). The 1810 Grayson tax list shows James Oneal, John Oneal, Jonathan Oneal, and Samuel Oneal amongst the tithables." In another passage, there is mention of James (1815) conveying 200 acres of Grayson County land to his son John and the deed states that James was from Guilford County, NC and John was from Orange County, NC. Since Jonathan was John's brother, it appears that the family came from NC. Have not found much on Jonathan, cannot even prove he ever married. Your date of him being born abt 1755 is a little early. The Guilford County 1800 census shows James and three males greater than 10 years old and less than 16 years old.
