    3. Jim, Thanks for sharing with THE LIST the loss of a very fine uncle--a very fine O'NEALL. We get one chance to do it (life) right.... I think your uncle "got it right". For those who are not religious, they will still recognize how one lives forever....in memory, on pages of some yellowing document, fading photos, and smiles when their names be mentioned. He would have, no doubt, loved it! Sincerely, Amanda NEAL Akey

    3. For those of you who are keeping records of my branch of the family, I regret to inform that I lost a dear uncle this week. Donald E. O'Neall "Shorty" was my fathers brother and was married to my mothers sister. He was a special guy and a friend to all. He will be missed by all who knew him. Always had a smile and a joke to cheer the day. I was able to attend the funeral service, some 3 1/2 hours drive but weather stayed decent so my wife, daughter and I traveled south to Clarke County, Iowa. Services were held at the Kale Funeral Home, Osceola, Clarke County, Iowa. My cousin Pennie O'Neall Gonseth was the organist and "Shorty's" Grandchildren were the casket bearers. I was so thankful my wife and I stopped to visit he and my aunt Dorothy on our return from Texas New Years Eve Day. We had a wonderful visit. He had been in the hospital for a little over a week suffering with pneumonia, and it was just too much for him and he slipped quietly away. "Obituary:" Donald Everett "Shorty" O'Neall, son of Peter J. and Cora McCarty O'Neall, was born March 3, 1911 in Clarke County, Iowa. He passed away January 26, 2000 at Clarke Community Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at the age of 88 years. Donald lived most of his life in Clarke county, Iowa. He received his education in Clarke County Schools, graduating from the Green Valley Country School. He also lived in Pocahontas County, Iowa in the mid 1930's. Shorty was united in marriage to Dorothy Loraine Buck on December 14, 1937 in Pocahontas County, and two children Peggy and Larry blessed this union. Shorty and Dorothy returned to Clarke county, Iowa in 1940 where they continued to enjoy many years of farming. Farming was his life and even after selling the farm in 1997, Shorty enjoyed the many trips back to check its progress. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold and Herman and sisters, Helen Dugger and Twyla Gore. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Dorothy of Murray; daughter Peggy Gonseth and husband Don of Murray, Iowa; son Larry and wife Martha of Osceola, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, Garth Gonseth and wife Nancy of Brandon, South Dakota, Cherie Jackson and husband Lyle of Murray, Iowa, Bryan Gonseth and wife Sheila of Trussville, Alabama, Dianna Robins and husband Doug of Murray, Iowa, Kathy Flaherty and husband Pat of Murray, Iowa, Kenneth O'Neall and fiancée Kristily McAninch of Murray, Iowa, Douglas O'Neall of Creston, Iowa; 14 great grandchildren, Nathan, Geoffrey, & Erin Gonseth; John, Marty & Andy Jackson; Tyler & Kyle Gonseth; Kyle & Lucas Robins; Rachel, Amy & Patrick Flaherty & Kaira O'Neall, brothers and sisters, Lucille Baughman of Murray, Iowa, Glen O'Neall and wife Ruth of Havelock, Iowa, Mary Booth of Afton, Iowa, Dale O'Neall and wife Merle of Murray, Iowa, Dean O'Neall and wife Elsie of Roseville, Illinois, John Tom O'Neall and wife Mildred of Grand River, Iowa, and Robert O'Neall and wife Judy of Peculiar, Missouri, sister-in-law, Louise O'Neall of Murray, Iowa. Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives along with a host of friends. He was buried at Murray Cemetery, Murray, Clarke County Iowa. Jim O'Neall oneallj@ncn.net

    1. [ONEALL-L] updates from Anne O'Neal
    2. Anne O'Neal
    3. To all interested list members and in particular those concerned with O'Neals, Neals located in Henry and Shelby Counties, Ky. This is an update to the file of descendants of George O'Neal b. 1755, son of Hugh + Anne Cox and Elizabeth "Betsy" Singleton. I have already sent this to John O'Neall in Genas, France and his file will be correct as soon as he has time to update. I realize that Jill is unable to update and I am hoping that this way some of this information will be of use to others. The largest additions are to: 1. The descendants of Merritt O'Neal married to Elizabeth Arnold 2. Descendants of Lewis O'Neal (changed to Neal) married to Louisa Lowry 3. Descendants of Mary O'Neal married to Merrill Forbes. My sources for the additions are: 1.Julie Yarborough 2. Biography of Merit Drane married to Malvina Todd Neal 3. Marriage records of: Hiter, Walker, Lowery, Craig, Singleton, Neal, Baskett 4. Bibles of Lewis Neal, J.S. Baskett, Isaac Rees 5. Wills of: Daniel Singleton, Mason Singleton, Melvin Lowry, Wm. Baskett, Toliver Craig, John Craig, James Baskett, George and Elizabeth O'Neal, Rees, Land, John Ford and Lewis Neal. A great many of these can be found in "Kentucky Pioneers and Their Descendants" pub. by Genealogical Pub. Co., Inc. 1951. 6.
