Timothy O'Neill, (and everyone else) I, too, have been searching for ancestors from the St.Paul/Minneapolis area. I know my grandmother and her family lived there - Her father, my ggf was the "City Counsel for St. Paul." I understood that to mean he was an attorney for the city. This was around the turn of the century. He was Owen Harry O'Neill b 1863 married (1) Margaret (Buckley) b 1865. Children - Hugh, Edward b1892, Eugene b1894, Olive b1896, Robert b1898. Owen Harry married (2) May Doherty b1875. Children - Mary, Harry, Katherine, Alice, William. Owen had 2 sisters - Annie and Mary Agnes (Mamie). Their parents were John O'Neill b Ireland and Anne Larkin b Ireland. John's parents - Owen O'Neill and Anna Boland - Children - John, William, Anna, Catherine, and Phelim (Felix). No dates or locations or times of arrival in the States. Let me know if we connect anywhere - I'd love to learn! VRY, Barbara C. I found this article in my continuing study of my O'Neals in the War of the Rebellion. Does JWC fit into anyone's branch? John O'Neal Embreeville, PA Gettysburg Pa., March 13, 2000 -- Photographs of 25 Gettysburg citizens who endured the hardships of war in their home town are now on exhibit at the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center. To focus in on the stories of the townspeople of Gettysburg and their struggles throughout the battle in 1863 and its aftermath, the National Park Service has created a new exhibit called the Civilian Wall of Faces. The exhibit features 25 men and women, young and old, black and white, who cared for the wounded, provided food and shelter, and buried the dead when the time came, one of whom was killed in the battle. Dr. J.W.C. O'Neal: (1821-1913) corner, Baltimore & High St. A Virginian by birth, and a one-time Pennsylvania College student, he had earlier responded to the medical emergency after Antietam. Since Confederates at Gettysburg were hastily or carelessly buried, O'Neal decided to record their burial sites, to the dislike of some local folks. FOR MORE INFORMATION contact Gettysburg National Military Park, 97 Taneytown Road, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325. Telephone (717) 334-1124, www.nps.gov/gett
Hi Mary No connections that I know of yet but I wonder as it was not a very common name in that area could perhaps be cousins . All I know of the family are the names. I have not yet been able to find any more details. I have checked the registration records at our local LDS and could find neither Roberts birth or his parents marriage. I have contacted the Tipperary heritage centre and I am waiting for a reply. If I could find Robert seniors parents I may be able to connect other bits and pieces I have stored over time. Thanks for your reply. Sorry Penny, I don't. They would have been born since the 1920's, since that was when James and Jennie came here from Scotland. I really got into all of this because I am trying to trace the County Cork connection prior to 1885. Did you see the other message from Jaynemari? She is an O'Neill from Rochester, maybe you can get better info from her. Good luck! Hi Garry Do you know if your grandfather had any other brothers? I am curious as this is the first O'Neill from Tipperary I have come across. My grandfather was Robert Joseph O'Neill who was born approx 1866 in Tipperary. He came to Australia but the first record I can find of him is his marriage to my grandmother in 1890. He died in 1900 and on his death certificate it states that he was 14 years )or 11 - it is hard to read) in the colony. I live in Queensland but have checked as much as I can and this far have not found him on any shipping records. He apparently came here with his parents Robert and Mary Ann (Noble). Family hearsay has it that other members of the family went to America but this would have been fairly common for the time I think. O'Neill was not a common name in Tipperary so you never know! I'm a beginner at gen. but, if you have any info on one of the oldest childrens birth and then check the previous census records, you should find something. Good luck, Pat O'N
Hi My grandparents emigrated in 1877 to New Zealand with three of their children, one dying during the sea journey. They, according to my parents marriage certificate originated from a small village named Galmoy, which is in the vicinity of Johnstown (Ireland). Oral history says they travelled through USA but this has never been verified. We are not aware of any siblings in the my great grandparents family and again oral history says there was a brother Edward (Edmond) who settled in Nashville. One of my aunts was said to have been born there. My grandfather James O'Neill married a Mary Tyne in Tipperary,in 1870 and sailed on the sailing ship "Renfrewshire" from Plymouth. The ship"s manifest shows their names spelt Neal, though this was never used in Nz where they were known as O'Neill. My father was born in NZ. I hol;d recordes of the NZ Descendants. Regards Garry O'Neill

Hello Alice, They lived in Rochester. I'm sure they still do, haven't heard much about the U.S. branch of the family since I was a child. They would have been the descendants of my father's brother and sister, James and Jennie. I'm not sure of Jennie's married name, and James went by Neil. I know this info is a bit sketchy.....let me know if it helps at all. Hello all, I've been following this conversation, and just had to jump in. My O'Neill family was from Cork, and came to Canada in the late 1800's. I live in Ontario, and am familiar with many O'Neill's here, some related, some not. Part of the family also settled in New York and New Jersey. I've been trying for some time to shed some light on the earlier history of the family, as I know little of the time before they left Cork. Would love to hear from any of you who could help, or I would be happy to share the little I know. Where were your Murray's from in Ireland? I believe that these Murray's were from Wicklow. Daniel Murray was born on 4/18/1768 at Sheepwalk, near the town of Arklow, in County Wicklow. Also, Daniel Murray had a nephew named James Murray, who became the bishop in Maitland, Australia (see http://www.library.newcastle.edu.au/archives/page32.html). -----Original Message----- From: Mary O'Neill [mailto:meornc@InfoAve.Net] Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2000 10:06 PM To: ONEALL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ONEALL-L] Family of Martin O'Neill - IRE>Paterson/Newark,NJ,late 1800s My O'Neill ancestors are from Cork>Boston. And they are cousins to a family of Murrays. I wonder if there is a relationship here?
