    3. Hello Listers: I am new to this list, having just found out about it through a posting to the CALVERT-L list. My interest is in the O'Neill family (spelling variations found throughout the generations) which emigrated from Ulster to New Abbey, Kirkcudbright, Scotland around 1800. I have considerable information about them which I'd like to share. My 2xgreat-grandfather John O’NEILL (1818-1896) was born and married (1841) in New Abbey. His wife was Margaret CALVERT (1822-1899) of Canonbie, Dumfries. Lots more information if anyone is interested. Cheers, Hilary near Toronto, Ontario, Canada

    3. Sharon, My ggrandfather was born in GA and, if family stories are to believed, held slaves. He was born about 1827 and I don't believe he was first generation. His son was born 1860 and died 1863. The reason I mentioned these names is because of the tradition of naming the first son after the father. Griffin was the first son. Since your family is of NY and Canadian origin, it seems pretty slim that we're looking for the same people. But since one never knows, hang on to my name and I'll hang on to yours, just in the event we can find some connection. 3. Interesting to see the names O'Neall and Calvert used in the two messages below. My grandma was Jane Barbara Calvert O'Neill, born 1891, Mochrum, Scotland, which is in or near Kirkcudbrightshire. Her father's mother was Margaret Calvert, born 1822 Canonbie, died 1899 in New Abbey; Margaret was the child of Thomas Calvert born 1797, Canonbie and Grace Hope (no details) who were married in 1819 in Dumfries. My grandma's entire family came to Canada in the early 1900's, but it is possible they may have had relatives migrating to the US a generation or so earlier. If we might be related, please contact me by private email plmquist@uniserve.com so we can compare notes. 1. Re: [ONEALL-L] Calvert/Rhodes
    2. Greg Anderson
    3. HI L Lukenbill You may want to contact the First Families of Maryland or a Genealogical Library in Baltimore, Maryland. The Calvert Family owned much of the land in Maryland along with Lord Baltimore. Some of the land which is now Washington DC was given by the Calvert family. There may be some printed histories which talk about his descendants. Good Luck!
