Alan - you mentioned three William O'Neall's in a row; b. 1734, b. 1756, and b. 1777. I am descended from William b. 1734, son of Hugh. However I don't seem to find Williams in my data base with birthyears that correspond to 1756 or 1777. Can you elaborate on those two Williams for me please? I have William O'Neall b.1734 his son William Neal b. 1770; then William b. 1734 his son Abijah had a William b.1791; then William b. 1734 his son Henry Frost O'Neall had William C. b. 1800; As you can see I have a bunch of Williams in the Hugh O'Neall line, there are many more than I have mentioned thus far, but none correlate to the dates you mentioned. Do you think your William O'Neal might be the same one referenced at http://edenfield.org/dbase/dbase08/cag00001.htm#1? Was he born in 1756? He might be the link I need to document to link a confirmed William O'Neal in my line to the Hugh O'Neall line. There would have been three Williams in a row; b.1734, b.1756, and b.1777. Would like to find the maiden name of William O'Neal's wife...Her given name is Elizabeth and they married about 1774. Probably in Johnston Co. NC. William died in 1796 in Johnston Co. NC.

Hi fellow O'NEILL'S, I just received a marriage licence from NYC for: Henry O'NEILL age 29, born Brooklyn (parents: David O'NEILL and Mary WELSH) to Catherine SLOANE age 22, born NYC (parents: John SLOANE and Josephine COFFEY) on November 20, 1882 in NYC. Unfortunately, though my Henry O'Neill married twice, they were to Catherine MCELROY and Catherine MCPARTLAND! So, If this Henry O"NEILL and CAtherine SLOANE is yours, I'd be more than happy to send the marriage licence on to you. Pretty weird, huh? Happy hunting, Marsha [email protected] ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Virginia, Susie, Carl and Trisha (and others O'Neal researchers): I am so excited!!!! I received so many responses so rapidly! You have no idea how wonderful you have all made me feel. I feel as if total strangers have just walked up and handed me the keys to a treasure box. I live in San Antonio, Texas and began my research just over two years ago. The hardest part for me is narrowing my search so that I can focus my attention. I get so excited and want to know everything about everyone of my family! I was adopted and thus never even knew my own parents. In the beginning (2 years ago), I was only armed with my father's name, OTIS B. MOORE, from my original birth certificate (circ. 1950). Today, I can proudly list my own brothers and sisters as well as those of my father. I've met siblings and first cousins (who, by the way are GREAT people) and I've had the honor of placing a stone on my father's grave. Being able to hold and touch his birth certificate has, at last, made him real for me. He was born in Greenwood, Ark and his parents in Booneville (Mary E. POPE) and Paris (Franklin N. MOORE), Arkansas. Search for him was what originally led me to Sebastian County. With our MOORE elders gone, my cousins and I find ourselves hunting old records and surfing the net looking for answers. Great services such as the MOORE-L and ARSCOTT-L groups have made it possible. And now to find O'NEAL-L ........ I truly am blessed! Until now, I hadn't had much luck on my mother's side. While I hope to one day find her grave, learning about her parents and their parents has given me a very warm sense of her presence. I hadn't known how fulfilling genealogy could actually be. You can be certain that I am interested in each and every little thread that I can find!! VIRGINIA: Do you have a copy of Moses' probated will (Johnston County)? Any (AND ALL) information you are willing to share would be cherished! Where did you discover the information on Wiley & William migrating to Bedford County? SUSIE: You are a warehouse of information!!! I would love copies of anything I can get about anyone even remotely connected to the family (Wiley's siblings, etc.). Of <<GREAT>> interest was your collection of data on my 3d g'grandmother Phebe LaRue. I would love to buy a copy of the book you mentioned! Where did you find the information on her and g'pa Wiley moving through Texas to Arkansas? I would be more than willing to focus on researching Texas information in return for you having been so helpful to me. I was pleased to get the names of Phebe's ancestors that you briefly listed. Do you have a copy of Phebe's will? CARL: I copied every word of your input into my family tree files. I was some confused on the O'NEAL - LARUE connections. Am I then double related to the O'Neals? Once through my 3d g'grandpa Wiley O'NEAL and once through my 3d g'grandma Phebe (LARUE) O'NEAL? If she was a O'NEAL descendant herself, it would seem so. I feel like a sponge in search of water!!!! TRISHA: I'm sorry you couldn't immediately find a connection but it does sound as if we might still uncover one. Thanks for responding. VIRGINIA, SUSIE, and CARL: Could I have a copy of each of your family trees? I know how much time and effort each of you must have put into your research and I am willing to do whatever leg work I can do to further our collective research. I use Family Tree and can import any GEDCOM file. Thanks for existing . . . and offering valuable insight to our past. Judy Moore-Waring, [email protected]

Judy, I can't connect with my O'Neals but feel their must be a connection there somewhere. My O'Neals are from Giles Co., TN and Lincoln Co. TN which are located next to Bedford Co., TN. Greetings all! I want to recommend a book, Two Hundred Years of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, available at FHCs on fisch from LDS. I think it's 15-20 cents a fisch, (cheap!). The whole book is an extraordinary read. In that book is a very enjoyable account of the LaRue family, from whom LaRue Co. KY takes her name. I'm new to the list and wanted to submit my O'Neals in hopes I will connect somewhere. I just recently discovered the O'Neal trail while hunting for MOORE's. As an adoptee, I find so many unknown paths that it is easy to get lost. My maternal great-grandmother is Clara O'neal, born in Sebastian County, Arkansas in 1876. Her grandfather was originally from Tenneessee and great grandfather from Virginia. Any help as I begin my O'Neal research would be greatly appreciated. So far, I have found a couple of sites with a few O'Neals. Generation No. 1 1. FATHER1 O'NEAL was born in Virginia of Irish parents. Was a Revolutionary War veteran. Child of FATHER O'NEAL is 2. i. WILEY2 O'NEAL, b. 1810, Bedford Co, Tenn; d. 1884, Texas. Generation No. 2 2. WILEY2 O'NEAL (FATHER1) was born 1810 in Bedford Co, Tenn, and died 1884 in Texas. He married PHEBE LARUE, daughter of FATHER LARUE. Notes for WILEY O'NEAL: He was born and raised on a farm in Bedford County, Tenn. During the later war he served in the Confederate Army. After being discharged in the Indian Territory he went to Texas, where he immigrated in 1860, and there died in 1884, age 74. Notes for PHEBE LARUE: Parents were Virginia natives, with her father immigrating to Tenn in his early days. Children of WILEY O'NEAL and PHEBE LARUE are: 3. i. JOHN L.3 O'NEAL, b. December 26, 1834, Bedford County,Tennessee. ii. JASPER N. O'NEAL. iii. ANDREW J. O'NEAL. iv. TENNESSEE C. O'NEAL. v. R. J. O'NEAL. vi. MARY E. O'NEAL. vii. WILEY I. B. O'NEAL. viii. WILLIAM T. O'NEAL. ix. JAMES M. O'NEAL. x. CLARA E. O'NEAL. xi. INFANT O'NEAL. Generation No. 3 3. JOHN L.3 O'NEAL (WILEY2, FATHER1)1 was born December 26, 1834 in Bedford County,Tennessee2. He married NANCY M. JOHNSON2 January 30, 1856 in Newton County, MO2. Notes for JOHN L. O'NEAL: He received a common school education. He lived in Tenn until Oct 15, 1854 when he immigrated to Newton County, MO. PINKNEY A.4 O'NEAL (JOHN L.3, WILEY2, FATHER1)3 was born December 1866 in Texas. He married (1) UNKNOWN. He married (2) SUE 1899. Notes for PINKNEY A. O'NEAL: 1900 shows him as a renter of the farm Sebastian County, Ark, could read & write no formal education Notes for SUE: 1900 census shows married only one year and that she has not given birth to any children, although the family has a 9, 7, and 5 year old. This indicates that she was not the first wife or mother of PINKNEY's children. She could read & write but had no formal school. Children of PINKNEY O'NEAL and UNKNOWN are: i. ELMER E. O'NEAL, b. Notes for CLARA T. O'NEAL: The 1900 census shows both of her parents are from TN, but the 1910 census list her mother from MO. The 1900 census shows Ray & Clara living in Beverly Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas. Ray is listed as a farmer, as are all the adult males listed on the 3 pages before and the three pages after his name. These pages obviously reflect farm families, each indicate they are living on an active farm. It is interesting to note that out of six farm families listed in a row, all are O'Neals except Ray Smith. All six families were related to Clara. The oldest listed family member is a 65 year old John L. O'Neal and he was Clara's father. The other O'Neal families living in and around them are Clara's brother's. The brother "JIM" was remembered by Ivan Otis Moore as about Granny Smith (Clara's) age. A James is confirmed on the census, is 1 year older than Clara and is likely the same person Ivan Otis remembers. Notes for RAY J. SMITH: The 1900 census shows that he spoke English and could read but not write. The 1910 census said he could not read or write. Both showed him as a farmer. The 1900 census shows Ray's dad from Alabama and doesn't list anything for his mom. The 1910 census lists his dad from Arkansas and mom from "United States". 1910 still shows living as renter on farm in Beverly Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas (different farm number). Shows he can not read or write. Children of CLARA O'NEAL and RAY SMITH are: i. STELLA5 SMITH, b. September 1892, Arkansas; m. CRIPPS. ii. ALLIE SMITH, b. August 1894, Arkansas; d. Van Buren, Ar. iii.
