Millie Jane O'Neal and John Reese my ggrandparents migrated from Bedford Co. TN to Gallatin Co. Il after 1870. I found this family on the 1870 census of Bedford Co. TN. Who were William O'Neal's (of 1734 vintage) children? Pat [email protected]
I wish I knew. He is almost always found as James R. I've wondered if it stood for Reece or Reese as a grandson was given that name. It's only a guess! Dorann
I have some James' in my line - what is the middle name of your James??
Carl & all, William O., b. 1734, is also my 5th great grandfather and I'm now 47. I'd also like to throw in that it wasn't just our earlier generations that got married at a young age.........my dad & mom were 17 & 16 respectively when they were married!! Don O'Neall
I'm a new addition! My O'Neals were James O'Neal and wife Martha from NC. I don't know where or Martha's name. They show up in Simpson County KY ca. 1820 and live out their lives in KY, i.e., Barren and Allen counties. Know nothing about James' siblings. I would surely like to find someone in NC who is missing a son James. Any ideas? Thhanks.
Good luck in the city! My O'Neil(l)'s are also connected to NYC somehow (Vaudeville at least!), I hope you get some good stuff! Sharon
Dear Cathy, I wouldn't want you to have to proceed like a box turtle! I was working from 1734, not the 1777 figure, that gave me a couple more generations to work with. Even so, the line of my O'Neall inheritance includes but three females, who were 22, 26, and 30 respectively when they gave birth to the next in decent on my line. You shouldn't feel badly about having thrown us a bone. After all, we were looking for something to chew on. It was not you we were chewing, but the bone! This list is different. I'm in only two, so I would hardly qualify as an expert, but I can contribute but little to the other, for I went there for help. No on has offered any information in the state, GA where I pick up the line. After a respectful time, I queried my couple, and got a response from a close relative who was after essentially the same material I was after. We have much to share on other mutual lines, but we could grow old waiting for knowledge of this GA pair. Neither the cousin nor I have GA research experience. I count myself very lucky to be here! With a severe lack of confidence in my counting ability, I had FamilyTreeMaker calculate the g-g's between me and William O'Neal, b.1777. According to FTM, he is my 5th great grandfather. I'm actually older than Kathy. With about 20 years per generation there would be room for roughly 7 or 8 generations. Let me throw my William O'Neal into this search. I don't have any dates for him but according to his son's census records he was born in NC. His wife was Nieva (??) Sheppard and they had at least 3 sons. Allen O. O'Neal b. 9-1867, James and I don't have the name of the third one. Any help appreciated. Ann Salmon J. It looks like the pound sign (#) between 00001.htm and the last 1 got translated to the at sign (@) in the URL. If you are using Internet Explorer with Outlook Express, the easiest thing to do is just click on http://edenfield.org/dbase/dbase08/cag00001.htm#1 right here. The URL should appear in a different color and underlined. Otherwise, highlight the URL in the e-mail message, copy it (Ctrl-C or Edit, Copy), then paste it (Ctrl-V or Edit, Paste) into the URL line of your browser. Let me know how it turns out. I'm not in New Orleans, but my prayers are with them. I'm in Palm Harbor, FL (Tampa Bay Area) and had to board up my house when it looked like Georges was coming here. I'm still sore from lifting plywood, but glad I did it. Hurricanes are nasty, unpredictable beasts. Alan -----Original Message----- From: J. My source for the first WIlliam, b.1734 in Christiana, Delaware, was the O'Neall Cousins Project. He married Mary Frost. Information on the second William, b.1756, came from the Edenfield Genealogical Society (http://edenfield.org/dbase/dbase08/cag00001.htm#1). I have little to no additional information about him other than he was the father of the third William. Data on the third WIlliam, b.1777, also comes from the Edenfield Genealogical Society (http://edenfield.org/dbase/dbase08/cag00001.htm#2). He married Elinor Culpepper and was my g-g-g-g-g-grandfather. Making the link to Hugh O'Neall through the second William is pure hypothesis based on dates, geography, and wishful thinking. One other factor for which I base the probability of my being a Hugh O'Neall descendant is a family story about them immigrant ancestor having jumped ship in New England and changing his name to O'Neal. That story could be an out-of-focus version of what Hugh did. Do you know if anyone has created a master O'Neal family tree based on all the data available? A Gedcom or FamilyTreeMaker file would be useful.
