Hi to all searchers of those elusive O'NEILLs*** Does anybody have access to the Census for Baltimore MA. for the yr. 1900? if so I would be most greatfull for a lookup on any info on Thomas Francis O'NEILL & wife Alice~ they resided at 1631Presbury/Presttman St.? I know they were there in 1889 when my gr.mother Hazel was born, but it seems the Census files for 1890 were destroyed in a fire [those darn fires!] Keep on hunting~ we'll find them yet! Daniel O'Neill b.1847, d.April 11, 1901 m. Ellen Burke, b.? d.? don't know where or when. They had a son Dennis O'Neill not sure of birthdate or what happened to Dennis and his mother. Daniel then married Bridget Flaherty b.Jan 6,1849 d.August 4, 1893. Bridget was the daughter of Owen Flaherty and Honora O'Brien. Their children were: Ellen (Nellie) O'Neill - b.1871 Julie O'Neill - b.1871 (twin of Ellen) d.1871 (Julie died at birth) John O'Neill - b.1873 Cornelius O'Neill - b.1875 Daniel O'Neill - 1877 Mary Cecilia (Minnie) O'Neill - b.May 3,1880 (This is my great grandmother) Johanna Camille (Josie) O'Neill - b.1881 Eugene O'Neill - b.1883 Bridget Isabell (Birdie) O'Neill - b.1885 William George O'Neill - b.1886 Catherine (Kitty) O'Neill - b.1889 Thomas O'Neill - b.1892 Baby (?) - b.1893 (died at birth) They lived in DePere, Wisconsin. This is the farthest I have been able to trace them back, but I have only just started on the backward trek. Any assistance would be helpful. Thanks! Paula Killian Volp

Dear list, It was quite a boost for me to see my message flying around again and again, during the recent discussion. I guess if I'd blundered big time, I would have been embarrassed over and over. I feel compelled to point out that the copy feature is meant to make possible a quick review of what has been said, to avoid repetition in the composition stage. Whether a letter is too long, may well be a function of whether the family being discussed is one's own! Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. If you have already read a portion of what has been sent, you should quickly realize it, and you may scroll down quickly through it. Patti, I believe there is a edit feature on the e-mail where when repyling to an e-mail message it allows you to "not send" the original message. I think this is the problem. When a reply is made this feature is not used and it keeps giving the original and the reply and the answer and reply....get it!!! I know whatcha mean. Norma
Just a small request here, and if I'm out of line I'm sorry- I was just wondering if all the looooong replies could be shortended a bit. Its really a pain scrolling through so much repitition. I hope I'm not the only one bugged by this, but if so, sorry. I type this smiling. Patti "short and to the point" oneil
I too am interested in the O'NEALS in Belpre, Ohio. "The History of Belpre, Ohio" by E.C. Dickinson mentions two O'Neals. Julie, I am interested in whatever you know of your John J. I have a J.J. which, of course could be any combination of names, but I am taking long shots right now. He would have been in Belpre Ohio in 1906. Thanks, Patti

My most-wanted O'NEIL/O'NEILL's - located in Charleston, SC in the mid-1800's, hailing primarily from Newtown Hunt, Thomastown, Kilkenny, or Dublin area, IRE Thomas O'Neill - possibly worked with the railroad, married (at least once) to Mollie REID; fathered at least two children: James Joseph (b. 1845, my ancestor) and daughter, Mollie; died about 1855-60. Rev. Patrick O'Neill - Roman Catholic priest from above Kilkenny location; served St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Charleston from 1838-1860, his death. Other O'Neill's enumerated with him in censuses were Eliza and Anastasia. Walter O'Neill - possibly another priest; also hailed from above Kilkenny location; came to Charleston approximately 1850; died of "bilious fever" in 1859 at age 29. John Francis O'Neill - a grocer in Charleston during the 1860's, married to Mary (?); children Francis, John J., Thomas, Arthur, Emmett, Cecile, Mary. Buried at St. Lawrence Cemetery (Catholic) in Charleston. I am hoping that these 4 are brothers, or at least kinfolk. Any suggestions or connections appreciated. I'm planning a trip to Kilkenny in the spring and hope to find more. Julie O'Neil Perkins [email protected]
Jill, Wouldn't it be easier for you if I post my O'Neill line on the every O'Neill web site, so that you don't have to clutter up your schedule. Now, that you have given me the URL, I can do it. Best o luck in researching your kin. And to everyone, please don't give up~I spent the last 2+ years posting one of my Most Wanteds on the Rhodes-L email list, myself and 3 other family genealogists have been searching for her for years and I found her by posting my query for the 40th time! Someone new on the list had her in his data and I found her entire family going back to 1600's, cause I didn't give up, so my suggestion: Post your "Most Wanted O'Neill/O'Neall" on this list again and always search the internet for them too! thanks, Jill ---------- : From: William Mitchell <[email protected]> : To: [email protected] : Subject: Re: [ONEALL-L] Roll call : Date: Sunday, October 18, 1998 12:45 PM : : Jill, : : You are so nice and helpful. Hi! I am new to this site. Maybe you can help. I have been researching my grandmother Virginia O'Neil, (O'Neill, O"Neal, etc.) born in 1906 in Mass. She married Joseph Osborn (CIA), also from Mass (I think) and they eventually moved to the McLean, Virginia area. They had 4 children: 1. Virginia, died at an early age. 2. Edmund, who married and had 3 children, names unknown. 3. Judith, who became a nun, a Sister of Mercy, and still living. 4. Margaret Mary, my mother. I have not been able to find the Osborn family or the O'Neil family in any capacity. If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate it.
When I first discovered Rev. War Soldier Darius O'Neal, I got the book, "Over the Misty Blue Hills," through interlibrary loan and copied the pages mentioning O'Neals. The author was certainly fuzzy about her data, "These records are in the Accounts of the Comptrollers office, War of the Rebellion, in State Library of Raleigh, NC, Volume A, Book D, 1778-1783." Their names were Henry, Patrick, Patrick, Jr., Peter and Captain Peter O'Neil. This is certainly not clear especially when she names "two who came to Cocke County before 1816." She named families of two men, but did not give the name of the father of either family. I've tried comparing the five she named with the Revolutionary War Pension Files (by Virgil White's book) and can find three Henrys from PA and NJ; two Patricks , one from Edgecombe Co NC and one with ties to Mecklenburg and Burke County NC. Bottom line: does anyone live in NC near Raleigh where they could check Odell's information. I've never been to Raleigh but I imagine things have been shuffled around a bit since Odell wrote her book. Dorann in KY
