    3. Sorry for my high tone email today about frustrating robot/wrong address mail, I am frustrated about several things right now, this is just one of them. If anyone needs a copy of the Welcome message again let me know, as soon as the Utility page is repaired I will send it to those who need it, our rootsweb utilites page where I make technical commands is not currently functioning, I suspect due to mis-addressed list mail. It is very important to correctly address email and it is easy. Kindly only use the [email protected] address when you wish to subscribe and unsubscribe. Turn OFF any sig lines when making commands. This is a robot address, it jams up when anything other than simple commands are sent. Long emails are its worst enemy. Write only subscribe or unsubscribe and nothing else to this address. All other mail which you want listmembers to read should always be sent to [email protected] This address is for all list mail you are hoping living people will read. If you have not been a listmember or are unsure about your listmember responsibilites please refer to your Welcome letter and you may want to review info on the rootsweb server at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/#about write to me if you need some special help. If the group favors VA, I'd recommend a location more centrally located between DC (Archives) and Winchester if that location is important. For example, why not just pick a hotel near the airport (about 30 mins to the city, without traffic)? Regards, Jon O'Neil

    1. [ONEALL-L] Which George!
    2. Anne O'Neal
    3. Dear Cousins, My apologies. I don't blame you for wondering which George. The George in question is the youngest son of Hugh O.(see Jill's list of children) married to Elizabeth Singleton and supposedly born in 1755. This would cause him to have been born 4 years after the death of his father as shown in the death date that John has for his inventory assuming that this was George's father. I found a record listed by Sandy K. Gorin of Revolutionary War Pension Lists for Jessamine County, Ky. It reads,"O'Neal, George, Pvt. VA Militia, 3 Sept 1832, $80, age 79". I have gone back and checked the records that I inherited and which are supposed to be DAR records and I show the following: "His widow Elizabeth Singleton O'Neal allowed a pension on his application executed April 25, 1831, while residing in Jessamine County, Ky. Died there October 30, 1836. On Ms. Gorin's explanation ," These lists are all the pensioners under the act of March 18, 1818 and the act of June7, 1832. The first date is when the individual was placed on the pension rolls: the second when the pension began. Age, if shown, would be age at time of application for the act of 1818." She only shows one date for George and I am not sure if the 1832 is supposed to be date of application or what or in error. My records show application date as 1831. If he was 79 on the 1831 application date, then he had just turned 79. He would then have been born in 1752. His April birthdate allows for time for his mother to have been pregnant and his father to have died in 1751 which would fit the time slot that John has. This is just my theory and I apologize for the long explanation but don't know how to shorten it. This computer is on fiberoptic cable and I could get on the net on it and not the one on telephone lines which accounts for my changing address. Anne

If by chance I have misunderstood the information forgive me for passing this information on. My intentions are genuine and It may be that I was fooled. The CNN article mentioned in the message can be found at http://cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/9811/06/tod.10.html. copied and pasted; NATALIE ALLEN, CNN ANCHOR: If you spend a lot of time on the Internet, you'll want to keep an eye out for an upcoming decision by federal regulators. The Federal Communications Commission will determine if Internet dial-up should be treated as local or interstate calls. That decision could affect the cost of surfing the net. Please visit the web site and read the story for yourself. I will include a web site where You can locate your Congressman's address at: http://www.house.gov/writerep/ This web site has a place where you can write to them. Ok the bottom line. This was tried before and due to public out cry it was stopped, together we can stop it again. I'm opposed to any extra charges, I wouldn't be able to continue to use the net for genealogy. LOL the taxes and other charges on my pc line is just about as much as my bill. Dennis

The date given on the application is the age of that person when filing the application. I ordered the microfilm of George's records through my library and it has not come as yet. Anyway -- I am searching for any information on my Grandfather, Raymond O'NEILL. He left my Father's family just after my father was born in 1942. Last known residence was St. Paul, Minnesota. I believe that he may deceased, as he was born ap. May 05, 1903. He may have had a brother, also from St. Paul MN, named Frank who married a lady named Mary. Any help would be appreciated. I am also looking for any O'NEAL's from the Tracey City TN area. Looking for info on Elbert O'NEAL. Thanks for any help that is offered. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tim O'Neill Home Page http://www.dnaco.net/~tojo "Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in America. I don't have any info on Patience's parents. Could you share that, please? > This is a part of the O'Neal > story that has not been fully investigated. It's not for lack of interest. My father and I wrote to Winchester and got photocopies of the inventories (I wrote, he licked the stamps. <g> ) And Miriam York already had a transcript (with errors) of one of them. Other folks, especially cousin Don, have put in a lot of effort looking for any trace of Hugh and Ann's marriage in Delaware (or whatever it was called in those days), to no avail. I believe Ann O'Neall has also looked for that, since one of her ancestors, Emmet, apparently found something irretrievable. > William O'Neal also attended > Hopewell, but sometimes his records are shown without the "O." He also tended to sign his name "Oneall". Jill got some very interesting freight bills with his and Abijah's signatures on them. Anyway, I have copies of 2 inventories. The 1750 one (11 August 1750) seems to be signed (very hard for me to read) by Marquis Calmes (?), James something (maybe O'Neall, "his mark"), John Jones and, a paragraph later, Jesse Wood. The named administrator's name looks like Meredith Keton (?). Are we talking about the same paper? The 2nd one (13 August 1751) indeed names Ann ONeal (sic) administrat.... It is signed by John Milbourn (looks like -- is this Patience's father?), William Tolliffe, Evan Thomas and Anne A.O. "her mark" ONeal (sic). The appearance of Milborne's signature would lend authenticity to these documents as really being the inventories of "our" Hugh. Like other things concerning him, they have been disputed because of the date, which says Hugh had died already in 1751. The dispute centeres around the "fact" that somewhere, someone says that Hugh's last son George was born in 1754, altho I have no idea what the source for this info is. Ann O'Neall, a descendant of George's, has recently indicated she may have evidence George was born perhaps as early as 1751 or 1752, tho I don't know that she considers her results definitive yet. (Ann, are you listening?) Anyway, I would love to hear any more you have, especially in the nature of sources, on this subject. > There are good motel accommodations in Winchester.
