Well gang the results are in with 30 precincts reporting. South Carolina received the highest votes with Virginia coming in second. As you see, for 1st choice, South Carolina has a very strong lead (12), whereas for 2nd choice, Virginia is way ahead, (11). If you consider places that anyone would settle for, they're about equal. #1 = 17 votes were cast for South Carolina being either 1st or 2nd choice #2 = 16 votes cast for Virginia " Winchester" being either 1st or 2nd choice #3 = 9 votes cast for Orlando being either 1st or 2nd choice #4 = 8 votes cast for Salt Lake City being either 1st or 2nd choice #5 = 3 votes cast for North Carolina being either 1st or 2nd choice 7 votes for "none" were cast as a second choice. These "none" votes were treated on 2nd choice as a non-vote, and not a repeat vote for second choice of the first choice selected. It seemed unfair to allow some people to vote for the same place twice or assume that was their wish when others were willing to accept a compromise. Due to the closeness of South Carolina and Virginia I would propose that we investigate the possibility of each location for a final spot for the gathering. Either the Newberry, South Carolina (near Columbia) or the Winchester, Virginia sites hold major significance for the O'Nexlx's. This can be decided in the organizational meeting coming up soon. Thanks to John O'Neall, in France for his help on this project, I really appreciated the help. I'm feeling much better now and nearly back to 100%. Start making plans to attend the Gathering of the Clan O'Neill, O'Neall, O'neal, O'Neal, Neal, Neil and all of that Ilk. Jim O'Neall [email protected] "Searching the past; Looking to the future"
Just curious - but why Newberry in SC?? I grew up in Columbia and Newberry doesn't have anyplace to really have a large gathering--
This Rebecca was one of my grandmothers and all later census records had her born in 1796. Mary R. Malinda, do you know when this John O'Neal was born ? His sons , if correct, include many we have already seen in many messages, as well as Zachariah, who could be the father of our Henderson O'Neal--if these are old enough. We need a time frame to be sure. We know Henderson was in NC, a Zachariah, a William and Micajah, but we do not know if any of these are descendants of John. There are many O'Neals with these same first names, so its hard to prove/disprove. Do you have any dates or further documentation on any of them ? We will be happy to share what we have if we can connect them. Emma in NM
Mary, one possibility is that there was a daughter, Rebecca, who was born in 1796 but who passed away in infancy. The next daughter born to the family, in 1799, was given the same name, Rebecca. This was not an uncommon practice in those days. Happy Hunting! Pat Mayall
I have notes that say that EDMUND O'NEAL married ELIZABETH ROBERTS in 1799 Green Co. GA. My problem is that Edmund O'Neal had a daughter who was my ancestor and she was born REBECCA O'NEAL about 1796. Now About 1796 is not 1799 ! I need to know if Edmund O'Neal was married before and if so to whom? Edmund O'Neal's parents were JOHN O'NEAL & SARAH BRYANT I would love any information about them. Possibly from NC? Thanks all for voting during this polling process. The polls are now closed, as it is now past 12 mid-night USA CST. I will be communicating with John this week-end and we will get the final results to you A.S.A.P. Thanks again for all your participation. I think we are going to have fun. Those who said they will help with the organization and planning will be getting a "call for HELP" very soon, so keep close to your 'puters'. Hi Paul, Your Neals from Charles Co. MD are my NEALs! (not my O'Neals - my O'Neals came from PA :)) There has been quite a bit of discussion of the Elizabeth Hungerford-John Neale family on the Charles Co. MD list recently. They've also been mentioned on the NEAL list. I am in their son Daniel's line (Daniel<Walter Sr.<Charles<Jacob Loudon, who married 2 O'NEAL sisters (daus. of Wm. Cain O'ONEAL b. PA ca. 1792) from Gallia-Meigs Co. OH<Wm. Hameline<Wm. Jacob<Shirley<me). However, my info. on Daniel differs from yours. I have 3 of John and Elizabeth's sons, Daniel, Charles, and Zachariah, showing up in Bedford Co. VA by 1749 and I have Daniel's wife as Mary (either Dodson or Heuton or one was maiden name and one her first married name). A book has been written about the family. Also Elizabeth Hungerford's ancestry is on-line at Familytreemaker (the Smoot/Smute genealogy). I would be happy to send you copies of the recent discussion concerning this family and I would very much like to learn about this Sally CALLOWAY of yours and exchange info. with you. Since these are NEALs (however, one document in Bedford Co. refers to one single individual by O'Neal as well as 3 different spellings of Neal) rather than O'NEALs, perhaps we should take this discussion private. Pete, try this: When viewing an outline tree in FTM, go to the Edit menu and select Copy Outline Descendant Tree. Next, go to your email program and select Paste from the Edit menu. Unfortunately, the resulting tree usually needs some editing (deleting extra spaces) to be legible. Norma, Your Welcome, I'm glad I could help, were all new to the "computer stuff". No, these messages should be sent to the list, not sent privately~the policy of this list is to answer genealogy questions and share material on-line. This is the proven successful way to conduct on-line genealogy, proven by other lists, including Norcal-L . We support the sharing of all material on this list relating to genealogy, simply use your delete key based on the subject matter if you wish. Sincerely, Jill O'Neall Ching-listowner : : Hi All~ I'm beginning to think this list is called Moses O'Neale ~ : shouldn't some of these msgs. be sent to each other privately?
