Hello All, I'd like to introduce the following names to the Durham list - possibly they ring a bell in somebody else's research...I've nearly given up using search engines/find features trying to locate the name....Have you ever tried searching "Early" on a history list??? Even 'Smith' would return fewer hits! There's 'early settlers', 'early pioneers, 'early history', early everything it seems, except my family! I have a gggrandfather - Francis EARLY/EARLEY (b. 1810 Co. Down, Ire.) came to Canada approx. 1824; mar. Margaret DELONG (b. 1819 Ont. dau of Francis DELONG & Esther ADAMS) about 1834. Francis EARLY & Margaet DELONG settled in Clarke Twp, Durham (I have him on the 1856 Assessment Roll at S half lot 30, con. 6, Clarke and at the same location on Tremaine's 1861 map.) Children of Francis EARLY & Margaret DELONG were: Maria b.1835, m. John LAWLESS of Bondhead (Newcastle) William b.1837 m. Mary BURNS of Ops, Victoria Co. Margaret b.1839 m. Francis HUMPHREY of Manvers, Durham Co. James b.1842 never married, d. 1903 in Winnipeg Esther b.1843 Francis b.1847 Robert F. b. 19 July 1849 m. Clara TUFTS of Welland Gideon b. aft. 1848 Edward b. aft. 1848 All these children are believed to have been born in Clarke. Margaret DELONG died sometime between 1851 & 1861 and husband, Francis moved to Thorold around 1870. Francis EARLY is on the 1871 census in North Thorold with children James, Esther, Robert and Margaret.
