Hi Could some one please tell me which township it was that the railroad went through in Whitby. Cavan,Clarke, Hope, Manvers or Newcastle. Or was it named differently before 1900. Why I ask is in 1861 there where a great many James Johnston's in Durham Co. I am looking for a James Johnston whose land the railroad went through and his house was moved to main part of Whitby. This James was married to Agnes Nilly? and had the following children: Annie, Elizabeth, Helene 1857/60 Whitby, Dorothy, William & James. Dorothy was Doctor, Helen was school teacher just north of Whitby. She had a cousin also Whitby Area named ROSS JOHNSTON who had son William Oswald Johnston. The Ross Johnston wrote a poem to his cousin ella after the death of her first child. Just trying to narrow my search. Any help would be appreciated, Patricia -- Patricia Ann Cattanach Knapp <Pat.knapp@sympatico.ca> Georgetown, ON Canada [also Foy, Singer and Johnston] http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/k/n/a/Patricia-A-Knapp/ or http://www3.sympatico.ca/pat.knapp
