    3. I am researching a SMITH line that lived at one time in Pickering. Albert SMITH was married to Lovina ATWELL and these are the children I have found. George SMITH, b. 1831 in Pickering. Married Philinda CLARK and Lydia TERRY Delilah SMITH, b. 1834 in Pickering. Married Lafayette ALVERSON ( I have a lot of information on this line) Susannah SMITH b. 1840 in Pickering William Thomas SMITH b. 1846 of Watertown Samuel Henry SMITH b. 1849 of Watertown Edmond Daniel SMITH b. 1854 of Watertown There could have been other children. Some of the family were in St Clair County Michigan by 1860 and it looks like they came in 1854 from the census. I would appreciate any help with finding more information on this family. Thanks, Joan

So if you email me, I won't be answering for a little while. :) And my volunteer services will also be put on hold until I get back. Have fun! Robbin Guelph, ON

    1. HOOD Research
    2. Janet Lovegrove
    3. Hi Everyone: Approximately 1847, Charles HOOD along with wife Hannah WYVILLE emigrated to Canada. First settling in the Pickering area, they eventually moved to Scugog Island. In the early 1850's his sister Jane (Hood) Carter also emigrated to the Pickering area with husband Thomas. Then came John, their brother. Last came their youngest brother George with his family approx. 1882. I would like to make contact with anyone who may have a HOOD in their tree. If anyone has any info on any of these families, I would appreciate hearing from you. Cheers Janet Lovegrove Brampton, Ontario

Hi Dave; All the Atlases can be obtained from: The Canadian County Atlas Digital Project http://imago.library.mcgill.ca/countyatlas/default.asp The project overview states, "The County Atlas Digital Project is a searchable database of the property owners' names which appear on the township maps in the county atlases. Township maps, portraits and properties have been scanned, with links from the property owners' names in the database." Currently available are atlases for 17 counties of Ontario, with more on the way. Produced by the Digital Collections Program, McGill University Libraries, the maps can be searched by location or by people. The maps are beautifully scanned and large images with great detail can be loaded (although some of the files are rather large and may take some time to load--but they are well worth it. The information for each person in the database varies, but some are a goldmine. This is an excellent site and should be viewed by all. Kind regards Kathy Witheridge Sarnia, Ontario, Canada

    1. obits for two people from Port Hope
    2. eldenj
    3. I live in the northwest corner of the lower peninsula of Michigan. Following are two obituaries that were printed somewhere locally. I can't be more specific about the source; whoever accumulated this collection did not indicate the source. It might have been an East Jordan newspaper but that still leaves the question of which one. 1944 specific date unknown Anna Reta Carr, born September 15, 1891 at Port Hope to Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Carr. Married John Kiley Bader at East Jordan, Mich. June 24, 1914, died August 8, 1962. I also have his obit. 1958 Services were held June 10th in Victoria, British Columbia for Ila Etcher Hackett who died there June 6th. Mrs. Hackett was a former East Jordan resident. She was born April 6, 1882, at Port Hope, Canada, and came here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Etcher, when she was a small child. They moved to British Columbian in 1917. Surviving are one daughter, a grand daughter, a sister, Mrs. Ila Gibbs at Waterbury, Connecticutt, a step-brother, Albert Etcher and a step sister, Dorothy Brooks of BC and her step-mother, Mrs. Dan Swartz of Charlevoix. Final thought. From time to time I see obituaries of people born in other parts of Ontario, such as Brantford and Bobcageon. If I send them to this list (the only Ontario list I know about) would someone else take responsibility for re-directing them? Elden
