    1. IGI batch numbers.
    2. B. Douglas
    3. No, you are not mistaken, or else we both are. They are batch numbers for the LDS files, and are sorted by name. IGI means international Geneology index, does it not? Barb

    3. Unless I'm seriously mistaken (which is possible) the IGI batch numbers have nothing to do with locality. If I'm wrong, would somebody please set me straight. I might learn something. *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 8/2/00, at 19:33, Carol-Anne Hamilton wrote: >Does anyone have the IGI Batch#s for Durham County or Peterborough? 1. New Genealogy Site!
    2. Debbie Richardson
    3. Hi, I was sent this page and although I haven't found any relatives, maybe you can, its new, and we all like something new in genealogy! Debbie :) My name is Joy Shivar and I found you at the surname connect genealogy site. I just wanted to let you know about an exciting new genealogy site that just came up this month and is an entirely new idea for genealogy researchers. The site is called GenBay and the URL is www.GenBay.com and as you may guess, it is my site. I am offering free information gleaned from actual newspapers and other documents prior to 1900 in a surname-related format. All information is free and I am writing you because I know there is some interesting BLACK information available on the site, as well as other surnames you may be interested in. What's more, GenBay offers a chance to purchase THE ACTUAL AUTHENTIC NEWSPAPER in which your ancestor's name appears! There is only one original of each paper which will go quickly to a lucky descendant when a match is made, but full copies are also available. Please visit GenBay as soon as possible, to discover if you can find a surprise, and please help me get the word out about my new site. Thanks, Joy

The writing was not that great and I am not familiar with the area. I did call the lady last evening, who provided the information and she has offered to look up the name WITHERIDGE in City Directories the next time she is at the library. The only problem is, she is 80 years of age and doesn't get to the library that much. I will be in that area sometime in 2001 so will have to look myself if she is unable to go. Thanks again, Kind regards Kathy Witheridge Sarnia, Ontario, Canada

    1. Port Perry Area: ROBINSON
    2. Doug Porteous
    3. Does anyone know of Mark PORTEOUS or his wife Margaret ROBINSON (perhaps there are still Robinsons in the Port Perry area?). Mark and Margaret married 5 Apr 1882 in East Whitby Township. Mark was born in Reach Township ca. 1852 or 1853. I've found a single entry on the OCFA for Mark Porteous - in Maxwell, Ontario. A trip to Maxwell Old Presbyterian Cemetery has revealed that this Mark died in 1866 and is therefore not the same person. My suspicion is that Mark and Margaret left Ontario... Thanks in advance. --Doug Doug Porteous Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada

    1. Tate ..Looking for information on two families
    2. David Kemlo
    3. Hi Group. I'm looking for info on two TATE families that were unrelated. Thomas Clark TATE b. June 8, 1801 Ormesby, Yorkshire, England m. Elizabeth (?) b.March 1807, England. They came to South Monaghan Twp, Ontario after 1826 when they emigrated to Canada. Elizabeth died August 20, 1861 and is buried in Dawson cemetery, South Monaghan. Thomas remarried a lady by the first name of Ann. Would like to know where Thomas Clark TATE and Ann are buried, date of death, and Ann's last name. Also would like to know Elizabeth's maiden name. Thomas C. and Elizabeth TATE's oldest child, Mary Ann TATE b. abt. 1826 in Canada, married James TATE who lived in Caven Twp. James came from Ireland about 1832. m. March 1843. They went on to live in North Harvey Twp (Tate Bay on Pigeon Lake). I'm looking for information on James TATE from Caven Twp. Parents were William and Martha TATE. I don't know if they also came to Canada and settled in Caven Twp or if James had brothers and sisters. Other children from the family have been located in Cobourg, Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, to name a few. I have also found a grave marker for one of the descendents were the name was spelled TAIT. Any information or instructions on where to look is appreciated. David

I wrote there to find out about my great great great grandfather who served in the Fenian Raids and got back more information than I dreamed of getting. You could also write to the Ontario Archives in Toronto. The National Archives has the actual military records, and Ontario Archives has a record of the land grants the men received for their service during the Fenian Raid. I believe you can assess both these archives on the net, but I don't know the URLs for them. Maybe someone else could give them to us. Good luck, Maxine

    3. Hello Judy, Dave and all: The Stateman is on microfilm at the library. There is also an index to surnames on microfiche. Check that first, then go to the film with that date's paper on it. The OGS branch Whitby Oshawa is in the process of indexing and microfilming further editions of the paper. By the way, the paper was sold last year, so don't write to the address below. It is now a sister paper to the "This Week" series of papers (Oshawa, Port Perry, etc - they've bought out all the small newspapers including the Port Hope Evening Guide, Cobourg Star, etc).
