    3. I went to school in Bowmanville in the 1940s and 1950s with two guys named Stacey. One was John Stacey, known as Spud, whose father was a school teacher, also known as Spud Stacey. The other was Alvin Stacey, believed to be no relation to John, but I could be wrong on that. Alvin lived on Liberty Street, just north of King Street. I have old school yearbooks that might contain pix of these two. 3. Hi, Astrid. I have a reference to "Stacey" but only through a given name, however, it might indicate some kind of connection: PORTEOUS,Wilham [William? - not a known ancestor of mine],b ca 1819. From LKS. To Darlington Twp, Durham Co., ONT, ca 1855; later in Whitby Twp, Ontario Co. Moved to Wentworth Lake, SD, USA, 1885. m Jane Jackson, qv, 1840. ch: 1. Margaret, qv; 2. Mary, qv; 3 Agnes, qv; 4. I had the above reference in an old e-mail and I'm not sure what the numbers at the end mean. In any event, you can see that they lived in Darlington Township, and their 4th child was named Richard STACEY Porteous. Sounds like they might have some connection to the "other" Stacey family. Hi Astrid; Found the following in the Durham County Marriage Registers 1858-1869: STACEY, John, 25 of Cavan, born England, s/o William and Mary, married Oct 2 1859 to MARKS, Grace, 24 of Bowmanville, born England, d/o Robert and Elizabeth (Veal) The Durham County Newspaper Index, shows: STACEY, John of Courtice, died Sep 27 1890, aged 51 years, of consumption. 3. I would suggest you visit this web site first and do a search of the Church records they have on hand. It may say you some trouble... http://vicu.utoronto.ca/archives/archives.htm Go to the genealogy section and then visit the "local church records index page." It also explains what research they will do for you and what research they won't... Hope this helps.. I believe that they are held at: United Church of Canada Archives Victoria University 73 Queen's Park Crescent, East Toronto, Ontario M5G 1K7 I went a number of years ago, and found them very helpful. However, I think that you have to attend, I don't think that they provide records by mail. Hope that this might be of help to you all. Kind regards Kathy Witheridge Sarnia, Ontario, Canada
