My understanding is the link to Clan Fraser is based on the fact there was a Clan seat at Castle Oliver, but no Olivers have ever lived in the castle nor was it built by Olivers rather built by an Oliver Fraser and is named for his first name not last. My understanding of the Oliphant link is that Olifar is a root name for Oliphant (Olifar = Oliver) which makes way more sense. But according to the Council of Scottish Chiefs Oliver is a sept of Fraser. Now this much I do know. After the Clan systems were abolished by the English technically all Clans were disbanded. When they were reestablished the Olivers were placed under Fraser because of the Oliver Castle. Also I fairly certian that the Olivers migrated to the highlands from the Borders area. Frasers are Highlanders and Olipahnts are Border area Scots. As I sated above any and all knowledge on this matter will be greatly appreciated. You may feel free to contact me directly.
