Author: Sheila_Schmutz Surnames: Oliver Classification: pension Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.oliver/4762/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If anyone is searching for Jilson Oliver, here is some information I've found in researching Oliver men of early VA. I do not believe he is related to our families there. found on HeritageQuest Online under Revolutionary War pension applications. Series: M805 Roll: 622 Image: 129 File: S21405 Page: 1 of 11 Va Oliver, Jilson S.21.405 p.2 "Jilson Oliver of Pickens Dist in the State of S. Carolina who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Lftudge? of the Right commanded by Col Leord? in the S. Carolina line for 9 months" and then below S. Carolina is written VA so ??? P. 3 on _ March 1833 says Jilson Oliver was 78 years on 13 Aug 1832 He first enlisted at New London, Bedford Co, VA p. 4 "says he was born in Virginia Amherst County 1754". He lived in Bedford County when called into service (1774) and "after the close of the war removed to North Carolina Surry County and after some years removed to South Carolina where I now live in Pickens District" p. 5 Daird Sloan and John Robertson of same county sign for his character p.9-10 is a typed page of "Regulations under the Act of 1832" Unfortunately there is no mention of genealogical information regarding any relatives. Can't find him in 1810 or 1820 in NC or SC census. 1830 United States Federal Census > South Carolina > Pickens > Not Stated Gilson Oliver - - 2 - - - - - - 1- - - // - - - 1 - - - 1 - - - - - // Therefore he being 70-80 in 1830 census fits. few above is a Thomas Oliver 20-30 with one daughter under 5 and wife also 20-30. Perhaps a son? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
