    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: fiona702 Surnames: Oliver, Porter Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.oliver/4727.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: No, but I have a Thomas Oliver born Fairlight around 1833. He is listed on the 1841 census as aged 8, and on the same census there is an 11-yr old sibling with the name of what looks like Shelomith (there is definitely a dot above that last vowel). I had been puzzling over this peculiar name for ages, so was pleased to find that I wasn't imagining it; I would say at a guess that your Thomas is a descendent of this family, which means that we could be distant relatives! My Thomas married a Mary Anne Porter (born 1851'ish in Fulbeck, Lincs) in I believe 1875. Family legend has it that one or other of my gt gt grandmothers was born in a gypsy caravan, so this would either be Mary's or Thomas's mother, but I have yet to establish which. Have you found any gypsy genes in your family? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi, new to this message board. My GG Grand father is a Thomas Simpson Oliver wh was born in Lincolnshire in 1848. His mother was Elizabeth Simpson, father Thomas John Oliver - no other details. My Thomas S Oliver called one of his sons 'Sideath' - quite an unusual name. where did it come from? Similar to Shelometh? These Olivers came out to Australia (New England District - Armidale and then Inverell) prior to 1875. Hope someone can shed some more details on my branch of the Olivers as I have hit a bit of a roadblock.
