Author: theolivers731 Surnames: OLIVER Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.oliver/4837/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My family tree problem is unusual as I am confident I have details of my grandparents and his ancestors but have little detail about my father Robert Oliver and his siblings. Until a few weeks ago all I knew about my father was . Born Robert Oliver 09 Nov 1913 . Married my mother Louisa Louvain Elswood on 9 Feb 1944 at SALISBURY . Had 3 children Norman, Shirley & Robert Owen (myself) . Died 22 Mar 1966 buried in Heworth Cemetery, was Co Durham (now Tyne & Wear) . Had 3 siblings who we called Uncle Richard, Aunt Jen and Aunt Minnie As I was only 11 when he died I have very few recollections of him though my eldest half brother (from my mother's 1st marriage) knows a bit more though it is sketchy because of the length of time. He can remember granddad Oliver living with one of his daughters at an 13 Fourth Street, Heworth which matches the Death Certificate details Over the last few weeks I have found out a lot of information but still not specific to my father/his siblings generation due to lack of access to census information after 1911. The information I know about is Name Robert Oliver . DOB 9 Nov 1913 (verified by Army record, Baptism record, school record & diary) . Place Coxhoe, Co Durham (verified by Army record, Baptism record and school record) . Baptised 11 Jan 1919, Coxhoe Wesleyan Church, County Durham (baptism record) . Fathers Name Robert Oliver (verified by Army record, Baptism record, school record & 2 x Marriage Certificates) . Mothers Name Mary ???? (Verified by Baptism record) . Coxhoe School: started on 4 Apr 1921 (aged 7 years 4 months) and left on 22 Dec 1927 (aged 14 years 1 month) Richard his brother started in 1913 . Army Service 1931 -1945 Royal Engineers (Railways) . Profession Miner (latterly at Washington F Pit) . 1st Marriage Isabella Brass Cuthbertson on 2 Sep 1939 at Parish Church, Gateshead 1 son Leslie Oliver born 20 Mar 1940 at 47, Coburg Street, Gateshead (a half brother I have never met and knew nothing about until recently) His first wife died 14 Apr 1943 (less than 2½ years of marriage) Son Leslie was adopted as father was in Army. Leslie made contact at our fathers' funeral (Robert Oliver) in 1966; I was only 11 years old. . 2nd Marriage (Louisa Louvain Elswood (my mother) on 9 Feb 1944 at SALISBURY) . Died 22 Mar 1966 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead. I have ordered several birth certificates to try to find his details but none have the correct DOB, parents name or place of birth. I have used online indexes at freebmd, findmypast.com, ancestry.co.uk, genes reunited, Sunderland, & Durham records databases. As well as phoning Bishop Auckland, Gateshead and Northumberland Registry Offices and visiting Durham Record Offices. The Robert Olivers I have found for approx 9 Nov 1913 are Births Dec 1913 Oliver Robert Armstrong Castle W. 10b 686 wrong father Oliver Robert Cartridge Droitwich 6c 336 wrong area/date Oliver Robert C R Cunningham Wandsworth wrong area/date Oliver Robert E Vincent Beverley 9d 166 wrong area Oliver Robert J Behenna Devonport 5b 599 wrong area Oliver Robert M F Tucker Maidenhead 2c 726 wrong area ________________________________________ Births Mar 1914 Oliver Robert I Cumming Hendon (Middlesex)3a 696 wrong area ________________________________________ But none of them match! The Baptism record that I found at the County Records office also showed in the "Child's Christian Name" column "Robert" and what appears to be "Soars". I have looked to see if this was his mothers' maiden name but was unable to find anything. I have just bought my grandfathers death certificate which contained the following. . Date of Death 27 Aug 1954 . Place Bensham Hospital, Gateshead . Home at time of death 13 Fourth Street, Heworth . Reported by Jane Pendleton, daughter (known to us as Aunt Jen who married John Henry ELLIOTT then married James PENDLETON (Uncle Jim) I have just bought my Grandfathers WC to Ann Copper in 1870 . Date 10 May 1890 . Home Address The Freehold . Location West Rainton Parish Church . Fathers Names Richard Oliver : Robert Cooper . Status Bachelor & Spinster . Location Coxhoe Primitive Methodist Church . DOB as 9 Nov 1913 . Christian name as Robert "Soars"? . Parents Names Robert & "Mary/Marg" Oliver .
