I am now on the trail of a Goulden Oliver, who doesn't appear on any census until the age of 35; I'm thinking that he changed his name at some point, which is gonna make it a very interesting search! Anyway, just in case you haven't already found it, this is the site where I originally found Shelomith: http://www.effingham91.net/woodhurst/ukc51.html#sussex There is loads of stuff on there, including mention of a couple of Thomas Hills; good luck with your search. Hi, new to this message board. My GG Grand father is a Thomas Simpson Oliver wh was born in Lincolnshire in 1848. His mother was Elizabeth Simpson, father Thomas John Oliver - no other details. My Thomas S Oliver called one of his sons 'Sideath' - quite an unusual name. where did it come from? Similar to Shelometh? These Olivers came out to Australia (New England District - Armidale and then Inverell) prior to 1875. Hope someone can shed some more details on my branch of the Olivers as I have hit a bit of a roadblock. John L. Foster (b.1825) married Sophia L. ? (b.1833) and they lived in Lykens, Pennsylvania. They had the following children: Charles Foster (b.1855) John Frank Foster (b.1857) George Nash Foster (b.6-27-1862 d.2-2-1904) Maude L. Foster (b.1864) Jennie Foster (b.1866) I found my great-great grandfather's, George Nash Foster, grave in Roanoke that verified his birth and death dates. He married Alice Laurie Oliver (b.6-14-1860 d.3-29-1940) of Fauquier County, VA, in Roanoke, VA, 2-22-1899. They had two children; Alice Nash Foster (b.9-6-1899 d.7-24-1987) and Oliver Keith Foster (b.12-10-1901 d.6-16-1972); Alice Nash is my paternal grandmother. I discovered from my cousin that Maude L. married a Sayford, but I have no idea if it was in Pennsylvania or Virginia. I also discovered that Jennie married Amos J. Kennard (b.3-4-1866). A. J. Kennard was born in Ewyas Harold, County Herefordshire, England, March 4th, 1866, being a son of Richard and Elizabeth Kennard. He came to America with his parents when a boy and located in Pennsylvania. He received his education in the schools of Clearfield, Pennsylvania, and came to Roanoke in the spring of 1891, and with Dudley B. Powell opened a small plumbing shop on Henry Street under the firm name of Powell & Kennard. Six years later Mr. Powell retired. Later Mr. Kennard removed to 130 West Campbell Avenue where he now operates one of the largest plumbing and heating establishments in the State, west of Richmond. Trade in his line is not bound by the confines of Roanoke, but extends to many of the towns and cities of Southwest Virginia. He may be regarded, and justly so, as a leader in his line. Outside his line of business he is largely interested in other institutions having for their object ! the upbuilding of the city. He is President of the Anchor Investment Company, Director of the Roanoke Gas and Water Company, Director of the City National Bank, Director of the Roanoke Banking Company, Director of the Wasena Land Company and of the Stuart Orchard Company. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and of the Retail Merchants' Association, the two leading business organizations of the city. Fraternally he is a member of Lakeland Lodge of Masons, Roanoke Lodge of Odd Fellows and of Magic City Encampment No. 33 and Roanoke Lodge No. 2, Ancient Order of the Knights of the Mystic Chain. Religiously he is a member of the Episcopal Church. On April 2d, 1895, he married Jennie Foster, daughter of John and Sophia Foster of Lykens, Pennsylvania.
