    3. Hi Eileen: Our John Oliver's are not the same people -- although I wish they were as it might help clear up some things for us. Our "John Oliver" was born in 1810 and came to Canada in 1836 from England (this is according to the 1851 Census) and he married "Catherine" (of Irish ancestry). They lived in what is known as "Brown's Mountain" just outside of Canterbury, NB. They had children namely: 1. Elizabeth b. 1842; 2. Fanny b. 1844; 3. Ellen b. 1846; 4. Aaron b. 1849; 5. Fred b. 1850 d. 1934, m. Angeline Dickinson (Fred is my husband's grandfather). We can't seem to be able to go any further with this!!! Have been hoping someone out there would have a connection with some of the above mentioned people. I guess there are many branches of the Olivers that came over here at many different times. Does anything ring a bell with the above info and your Oliver's? My John Oliver was married to Elizabeth Trevethan. They had at least two children, Alice (or Annie) and Elizabeth (Bessie). They lived in Saint John, New Brunswick. The main problem that I have with your info is that I think they came to Canada from England closer to 1860. Please let me know if it sounds like there may be a connection. Thank you. 1. [OLIVER] Oliver photographs - further info
    2. Hi, I have been looking on line to try and identify the John Oliver of this bundle of photos (please, someone, find a connection so I can give them to you.....) and have found the following. Death of Walter John Oliver, b 28 Feb 1915, d 1999 (Feb qtr), age 84, in Cambridgeshire. This I think must be the owner of the photos as they came to us in 1999 in an auction lot which we bought for the cameras in it, and it fits with the Balsham address and also with the 1946 ID card. Birth of Walter J Oliver, 1915 (March quarter), Keynsham, Gloucs (mother's surname Leavey) Marriage of John D.G. Oliver and Emelie Leavey, 1914 (June qtr) Wandsworth 1d 87. There is also another Oliver/Leavey birth, possible sibling for Walter: Annie O. Oliver b 1919 (Sep) in Walsall. I can't at the moment find out any more without actually paying out money for certificates! Hope this will enable someone to find that they are perhaps a cousin or other relative of this family. I assume Walter has no living children since the photos were thrown out - but it might be that they weren't interested, or even that they were unaware of the photos and let them be cleared by the auction house (it does happen that things in drawers are overlooked by grieving relatives who "feel uncomfortable prying"). Hope this helps. Susan

    2. Kimberly Anez
    3. I am researching Andrew OLIVER b. Jul 1828 and died 1905/06. He married Malinda Debora RICKARD Dec. 24, 1851. They lived in Mason County, WV but there is a Greenbrier/Bath connection. Any information you may have on his ancestry would be greatly appreciated. Thought he was son of Eleanor SPRIGGS and Thomas OLIVER but now not sure. Kim OLIVER

    1. [OLIVER] Photographs of ? Oliver, looking for a home
    2. Hi, OLIVER. Surrey, Cambridgeshire and Norwich I have a quantity of photographs that came with an item we bought at auction and I am looking for a home for them. These are mostly of the 'snapshot' type, some perhaps from the 1920s but most are post-war and there are no names on the backs but I am sure they are connected with the surname Oliver. Reasoning: 1. One bundle is in an envelope postmarked 10 Dec 1975 sent to Mrs. E. Oliver, 22 Grange Mansions, London Road, Ewell, Surrey. 2. Another bundle is in a processing envelope with "Oliver. High Street Balsham" written on it. 3. An envelope containing about 25 negatives, dated 30 August 1972 showing hairstyles by John Oliver, Elm Hill, Norwich. There is also a negative showing his shopfront. It would be a real puzzle to work out who the people in the photos are unless you are familiar with the family members. Can anyone identify with this family? I have Oliver ancestry in Cornwall back around 1800 but can see no reason why these photos I accidentally acquired can have any connection to myself - and have enough trouble storing things that are definitely family mementoes! I would be delighted to post these on to someone to whom they might mean something. Regards, Susan

Author: dawnawms Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.oliver/4629.2.1.1.1.1.2.2.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Sorry, this is not my direct line of interest. I do not have information on Rebecca Butler (Oliver) or on George Edward Allen. I am seeking the ancestors of Harrison Oliver because he is a brother of John H. Oliver, which is the line that I research (I have a good amount of descendant information, but not overly impressive, for John H. Oliver and his first two wives). I was just writing on this message board to provide the source for the name of their mother, Milly Pash. John H. Oliver gave the full name of both his parents (Samuel Oliver and Milly Pash) on his third marriage. John H. Oliver was twice a widower. He was about 62 years old when he married in 1882 to a widow. By then, the Vermilion County, Illinois marriage records were a lot more complete. Thus, we are able to confirm that the 6 Feb 1798 marriage record in Loudoun County, Virginia for Samuel Oliver to Milly Pash is the correct marriage for his parents. Some Oliver researchers say that a Joseph Oliver is the father of Samuel N. F. Oliver. I would like to know how they arrived at this conclusion. So, please participate in this discussion board if you have any input regarding the ancestry of either Samuel Oliver or the Pash line. (Milly's father was John Pash, he is named on her marriage record.) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
