This is the will of James Oliver, my gggg-gf. His son, John C. Oliver, mentioned was my ggg-gf. I have a good bit of information on him. He was born, lived and died in the Abbeville, SC area. In later years, he became senile or lost his mind and was committed. His will left most everything to his oldest, unmarried son, Elijah; also of Abbeville, SC. The other children (some of whom had moved off to GA or MS) contested his will, but Elijah died before it could be resolved. Let me know if you need any further information on this family. I am willing to share what I have. Thanks, Phyllis (Oliver) Abbott Acworth, GA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There are many indictions that this John Oliver could be my third great grandfather. My great grandfather, William Oiver was born in SC about 1799, his brother James was born in KY about 1804. Both of them and a John Oliver were in Madion Co., TN by 1830. John died in 1834, old enough to be the father of James and William, and named John and James as executors. John's 8 children were not named in the will, but there seems a strong probability James and John were his sons. My theory is that John, the son of James and Mary, could well be the father of my William and his brother James. The names William, James, John, Samuel and Thomas are repeated in their children. If anyone has information on these lines, I would like to hear from you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Laswrence. My brother did FamilyTreeDNA for 37 markers. We do not match any of the other Oliver groups and I don't believe that anyone from the Orangeburg Oliver family have been tested yet. If you are an Oliver descendant of this group with Thomas-m- Sistrunk and Peter -m- Ott, I will order the test for you and pay for a 25 maker. Sandy --- On Fri, 4/24/09, Lawrence E. What does it cost to have DNA done for genealogical purposes? Kim OLIVER Anez
Hi, The price varies per company and by the number of markers you want tested, and if it's Y or mitochondria. Sorenson is free if you have good genealogical data for all lines. They provide no feedback to you about results but they post them in their database and you could try to find matches yourself. FTDNA is where the Oliver Y DNA project is located. It costs from $100 upwards for Y, depending on how many markers you want tested. They provide considerable feedback about interpretation and matches. Other companies are in Europe and other places and I know less about what they offer but if one converts the cost to dollars from Euros, it's often more. Ancestry is the newest company offering it and it costs less there for Y testing, for their promotional offer at least. I have no knowledge of how much feedback the participant receives about their results or matches. Perhaps others can share their experiences with various company's testing? Hi, I am trying to find out if the Oliver family of Thomas -m- Sistrunk and his son Thomas -m- Ott have had YDNA done. If not, I would gladly pay to have a 25 marker test at FamilytreeDNA done on your line. I am trying to find my Oliver and and due to the fact that my James William Oliver married Mary Dudely and her father was in Orangeburg at the same time as this Oliver family, I think I am in the right church, but just have to find the right pew. Sandy Oliver
