    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Samanthajade Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.oliver/4852.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have you talked to all of your father' side of the family about your grandfather? If not write, talk on the phone, etc. to anyone who will talk to you and write record with a recorder of some type what they tell you. Especially if there are any of your grandfather's siblings alive! Once you have what city he was born in write to the vital statistics office for that area for a copy of his birth certificate. Do a search on ancestry.com and familysearch.com. Get a good genealogy program like family tree maker if you haven't already. Keep both had written and computer copies of your work and what research you have done and where. Though sometimes repeating the same research will get some new results. Make copies of all your originally and use them to work with and keep the originals in a safe place, this way the originals will not be destroyed in anyway. I hope this has helped you. Good hunting and luck. Genealogy is like a jigsaw puzzle...one piece at a time. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I believe that it has been mentioned here before. I am from the line of Peter (Thomas) and Ann Mary McCarty who are the ancestors of Dionysius and there are no Peter/Thomas descendants who are participants in the YDNA project. 2. OLIVER SANDY
    3. There is an Oliver YDNA project that has descendants of Caleb. I believe that it has been mentioned here before. I am from the line of Peter (Thomas) and Ann Mary McCarty who are the ancestors of Dionysius and there are no Peter/Thomas descendants who are participants in the YDNA project. I do not match the line from Caleb. Please, anyone who is an Oliver and a descdendant of Peter/Thomas or Dionysius check out FamilyTreeDNA and the Oliver Project. 2. OLIVER SANDY
    3. Hi, Due to the continuing Sistrunk connection to my Oliver line, I believe that I am a descendant of Thomas (or Peter)Oliver (married Mary McCarty) who is the father of Dionysius I. Thomas Oliver of Orangeburg County, SC married Elizabeth Sistrunk. They had a Peter Oliver who married Elizabeth Ott and they had Glenn McCarty Oliver. Although this connects this Orangeburg SC Oliver line to Thomas (or Peter)who married Mary McCarty, I do not know which son of Thomas/Peter is the father of Thomas of Orangeburg Co, SC. My gggrandfather James William Oliver was in Hamilton County, Florida in 1853 with Sistrunk descendants of the Orangeburg County SC Sistrunks. Does anyone know which of the sons of Thomas/Peter is the father of Thomas of Orangeburg, SC? Has any male Oliver from this line been tested for YDNA? 3. In reference to the message below about Dionysius Oliver of Elbert County, please be very careful with names and relationships. You have mixed together two different unrelated Oliver families. There were two completely unrelated lines that lived in Elbert County, GA from 1795-1830. The large Dionysius Oliver family of Petersburg and the smaller Caleb Oliver family of Vann's Creek and Ruckersville, originally from Orange Co., VA. In the list of siblings of Dionysius Oliver below (Some are actually his children), you have a Seaborn and Seborn Oliver of Tallapoosa Co, and a Nancy T. Oliver. Those belong to the Caleb Oliver Family. Further down you have a "John J Oliver" and "Rachel Lucy Oliver", wife of Thomas Cotton, were not children of Rev. Florence M. Oliver. These are children of Caleb Oliver and not related to the Dionysius line. The "Milly T. Oliver" who married Asa Mann was also from the Caleb Oliver family, not the Dionysius line. I hope this helps a little. Robert C. There is one mention of a Talitha Watskins paid $15.75 from the estate on June 5, 1820 and the one mention of Mrs. P? Goode sewing clothes, but that is all.] Lewelling's education is mentioned a few times in the accounts, i.e. Richard M. Todd for schooling, Lewis Holloway for tuition and books, etc. An accounting of a sale made by Thos Coleman on 31 Jan 1817 for $1517 Money was paid out in Dec. 1819, including $100 "Cash to Lewelling" and $1 to a Mid Wife Money paid out through Nov. 1821 including "Boarding Lewelling Oliver 1820" for $80 and "articles for use of the plantation" $187 signed by David Richardson Money received for cotton sold in Charleston and Augusta in 1820 and 1821 The last entry is this collection is 1822. My interpretation follows: This Dionysius Oliver clearly had just the one son Lewellling who I believe was born about 1805 assuming these census records pertain to him: 1850 United States Federal Census > Alabama > Sumter > Warsaw Lewellen Oliver 45 M 8000 SC Eliza 42 F SC Ann 18 F AL Dunelia 14 M AL [actually Dionysius] Luellen 10 M AL Robert 6 M AL Dabney 3 M AL 1860 United States Federal Census > Alabama > Sumter > Northern Division 82 82 Lewellyn Oliver 54 M Farmer 43,000 140,000 SC Francis H Oliver 40 F SC Robt Oliver 16 M AL Lewellyn Oliver 18 M AL He mentions a sister Jane Ragsdale, a brother John, a brother Peter who had a son Dionysius, and then there is mention of a nephew Berrien, son of Dionysius Oliver! The only way I can make that work is that he had another sister who married a cousin named Dionysius Oliver. I found a marriage record for such a marriage: Marriages of Granville County, North Carolina, 1753-1868 Oliver, Dyonisisu & Polley Oliver, 26 Jan 1790; Joseph Smith bm; A. Henderson wit. Whether this is them.......I don't know. If so then this is likely the son's marriage: Marriages of Granville County, North Carolina, 1753-1868 Oliver, Berrien & Mary B. Royster, 12 Nov 1821; Willis A. Royster, bm. Mary ------------------------------ To contact the OLIVER list administrator, send an email to OLIVER-admin@rootsweb.com.
