    1. New info - OLDHAMS in Darke, Shelby and Miami Co.
    2. Marla Fair
    3. One and all, I'm sending this through simultaneously to several lists who might benefit from the info. I went to the Garst Museum in Greenville, OH today and found a folder there on my ancestors. What a joy! I recommend the museum to anyone. It is wonderful and the ladies there are very nice and helpful. Anyhow, here we go: Charles and Standley Oldham, two brothers in Middletown (Middlewich?) England near Manchester. Charles came to America and settled in Phila. PA (no date). Standley stayed in England and married Susan Worthington. They had five children: three sons and two daughters among whom were Martha (died young) Betty m. Peter Okle and Joseph. Joseph married ? and had six children: John, James, Edwin, Thomas, Samuel and Fanny. John Oldham came to America in 1848, settled in Troy, Ohio and married Polly (Mary) Blackmore. His brother Samuel came over in 1850 and settled near his brother, also marrying a Blackmore named Eliza. She was his first wife. He had two others Rachel Shuff, and Anna Landis. They had all kinds of kids, the details of which I can supply if anyone wants. John and Mary had at least two children, maybe three (according to the 1850 census). Standley, Sarah and James. Standley was born in 1845 and married Abagail Young. Their children were many among which was Charles my great-grandfather. I sent the rest of this through, but thought someone might benefit from knowing about the brothers in England and where in England they came from. Next I will try to corroborate all of this with other information. Most of it fits in with the written account my grandma, Ethel Oldham left with me. 3. Hello everyone, Just found out this list existed. I searched the archives and don't think I link to anyone here, but here's my information. It's sort of spare..... John OLDHAM born abt. 1825 in England. May have had a brother Samuel, born abt. 1827 (they were living on the same farm in 1850). I have found references to two brothers in the IGI at the LDS, John and Samuel christened at Hyde, Gee Cross Unitarian, Chesire, England, but am not sure if they were mine or not. Their parents were James and Mary HORSFIELD OLDHAM. (Do they sound familiar to anyone?) John and his family were apparently 'imported' by another British family by the name of WILLSON who had settled in the Darke and Shelby Co. areas of Ohio. They brought the OLDHAMS over to work as linen weavers for them. (I have this from a local researcher, not corroborated yet.) John met and married Mary BLACKMORE, also of England. And Samuel married Eliza BLACKMORE (sisters perhaps?) Mary was born abt. 1815. To John and Mary were born three children: Stanley (my g.g.grandfather), a sister Sarah abt. 1849 and a brother James abt. 1847 Stanley later lived in Van Wert Co. Ohio and then Miami Co. Ohio. He married Abagail ? and had six children at least. Henry born abt. 1883, Della born abt. 1880, Sarah born ?, Linda born abt. 1891, Earlen (?) born ? Charles (my g.grandfather) born 1875 Charles married Lucia DeWeese, daughter of Marion Lafayette DeWeese, a descendent of the Rev. Joshua DeWeese. Their children were twins. Marion and Chester DeWeese OLDHAM. Chester married Ethel MCCURDY. Their children were Jo Ann and Philip Kay OLDHAM. Jo Ann married Dale CUMMINS and had two children, Mark Alan (deceased age 17) and Marla.... .... me. Anyone with any info or who thinks they might connect, I would appreciate hearing from you. 3. For Jean Laidlaw: I would be absolutely delighted for you share your Oldham information. I couldn't help but notice you are in Macclesfield. My Nancy Oldham, whose father came from Manchester, married a man whose family came from Macclesfield. His name was Thomas Mann. I tend to get excited when I see a geographical correlation because I think marriages occurred more often when families were acquainted. I did find a Charles Oldham b. 1732 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England through Rootsweb Surname Resources. It's called the Oldham Genealogical Database 120543. He married Mary WOODRUFF, b. abt. 1736. Two sons are listed: James and Henry. Maybe this will help someone. I look forward to hearing from you. If you prefer, you may email me personally at [email protected] Carolyn Conkle Anderson

    3. Hi Jean, I'm not sure, but I think we have made contact once before, maybe on the LANCASHIRE-L list or on the GenForum? Pardon me for copying something from my last query, but sometimes it saves time. "I only have one Oldham (My wife's 4th great grandmother) b. 1749, d. July 16, 1785, m. John Kenworthy and probably lived in Hurst in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire, England." Her name was Matty and her locations of birth and death are presently unknown by me. Does any of this ring a bell with you? I must appologize to the list. I have made 2 queries lately and neglected to put Matty's name in either one. I will try to be more careful next time! 3. Hi Carolyn, The weather in Eagle River is 58 degrees F right now (7:12 PM), overcast and with the threat of rain and possible wind. We have had a few warm days in the 80's, but mostly low 70's to upper 60's during the days. It would be nice to know more about Charles Oldham in Manchester such as birthdate and when he left. My wife's only Oldham is her 4th great grandmother, b. 1749, d. July 16, 1785, m. John Kenworthy and probably lived in Hurst in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire, England. Welcome to the list, it has been rather quiet. Steve
