    1. [OLDHAM] J.A. OLDHAM - 1862 Obit - Greene County, Ohio
    2. XENIA TORCH-LIGHT WEDNESDAY - SEPTEMBER 24, 1862 XENIA, OHIO GREENE COUNTY ANOTHER XENIA SOLDIER GONE J.A. OLDHAM, a member of the 44th Regiment, died in the hospital at Gallipolis last week, and was buried in this city last Sunday. The funeral sermon was preached at the Baptist Church by Rev. M.R. GUY, to a large audience. The deceased was not yet 18 years of age, but he determined to enter the service and has been a soldier for nearly a year and was with his father and another brother in the battle at Lewiston last Spring. He escaped all the dangers of the battlefield to be stricken down by disease. His father and his brother were sick and in the hospital with him at the same time. One of his sisters went to them. The fathers so far recovered, as to be able to return with the corpse of his son. The other brother yet remains sick at Gallipolis. Such are the scenes all over the land. When shall they cease? The family has the sympathy of the community in their great affliction. Debbie I have no connection with the OLDHAM surname. I found this newspaper article and thought it might be of interest to someone on the list ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! 1. [OLDHAM] Oldham - Northants, Staffs, Middlesex
    2. Gordon Barlow
    3. Thomas Oldham Chinner was the son of John Chinner and Mary Summers, who married in Alderton, Northants, in 1718. I would like to know how the name Oldham first came into the Chinner family. TOC was a plumber in Bloomsbury. His son (name name) was a draper in Walsall in 1794, and mayor of that town in 1796. Later, he became an ironmonger (!) in Dudley. I have notes of Oldhams of the period in London & Middlesex, Devizes, Sheffield, & the vicinity of Walsall. However, I feel the connection must be through Mary SUMMERS - perhaps through family of her mother or grandmother in Walsall, Dudley or Wolverhampton. I would be extremely grateful for any help. (I live outside England, and don't have access to the IGI records - unless they are on the Web somewhere.) Gordon Barlow
