    3. Thank you for the wonderful poem - I also sent pedigree charts to siblings for Christmas - A lot of work since we don't all have the same father, but well worth the effort. -----Original Message----- From: Sue Downhill [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, December 24, 2000 11:25 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [OLDHAM] Merry Christmas to All A Genealogist's Christmas Eve by Sandra Devlin 'Twas the night before Christmas and inside my house Little was stirring, except my computer mouse. Our descendants were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of ancestors danced in their heads. So I at my laptop, near trusty old printer Put the finishing touches to the project of winter, The gift I had promised for under the tree A product of love, the family genealogy. My table with clutter galore was aspread with pedigree charts of the living and dead; old yellowed photos, letters of yore, wills and diaries chronicling days from before. While others bought gifts at Wall-Mart or Sears, I'd spent my time searching birth dates and years. No need for ribbons or fancy gift wrappings, This gift had a way of transcending the trappings. While surveying the charts with one final proof, I must have missed the sound on the roof. For what to my wondering eyes did appear, But the jolly old elf, replete in his gear. Searching my face, old Santa could sense My Christmas spirit was extremely intense. He spied my research on the table spread out, "A genealogist!" he exclaimed, "that removes any doubt." As I climbed up the stairs feeling quite in the pink, I looked back at Santa and shared a sly wink. For he and I know that the gift of oneself, Beats anything bought from a department store shelf. ~ Forwarded with permission from ~ Sandra Devlin <[email protected]> Moncton, New Brunswick http://sites.netscape.net/devlinsandra/missinglinks ==== OLDHAM Mailing List ==== Listname: OLDHAM-L To Post: [email protected] To Unsub: [email protected] unsubscribe in the body ============================== The easiest way to stay in touch with your family and friends! http://www.myfamily.com/banner.asp?ID=RWLIST1

    1. [OLDHAM] Northants & nearby
    2. Gordon Barlow
    3. I have a THOMAS OLDHAM CHINNER baptized in Towcester in 1735, the son of John Chinner (1697-1755) of Whittlebury, Northants, and Mary SUMMERS of Alderton, Northants. They were married in Alderton in 1718. I don't know who Mary's parents were, or John's mother's surname. (She was a Judith...) I would like to know how the name OLDHAM came to be given. It passed to Thomas Chinner's son, whose daughter married a BARLOW, and it is still in the Barlow family all these years later. We naturally want to know the origin! Mary Summers died in 1760 in Towcester, and her Will was proved in 1773 - a long delay; perhaps she was rich. Witnesses to her Will were William SPENCER, John CAPORN, and Thomas RIDDINGTON. Her husband (John Chinner) was a plumber & glazier. HIS father (also John) was a carpenter. I would dearly love to receive any information leading to an OLDHAM connection to either the Chinners or the Summerses. I realize the name may have been the name of a friend, bestowed in order to honour the friend. However, it is more likely to have been from some mother's maiden name. regards to the List, Gordon Barlow, West Indies

    2. Steve Crouch
    3. Hello, I wonder if anyone has information on the ancestors and siblings of Martha OLDHAM who was born in Mickle Hurst, Lancashire, England in 1749 and died on July 16, 1785. Martha (aka Matty) married John KENWORTHY on March 3, 1762 at St. Michael, Ashton under Lyne. John was born March 31, 1741 at Hurst Hall, Lancashire, England and died April 16, 1803. Martha and John had 12 or 13 children, 6 daughters and 6 or 7 sons. The last child born was Neddy KENWORTHY on July 5, 1785 in Hurst in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire, England. Since Martha died on July 16, 1785, it would appear that possibly Martha due to complication with that birth. I would love to know if anyone has any information on this. 1. Re: [OLDHAM] SAMUEL T. OLDHAM, Born in England Abt 1872
    2. Dear Maggie Oldham, My grandfather was Emzy Oldham, born in the year 1879 in TN. His father's name was Samuel, and he married a woman by the name of Mattie. This is all I know about them. My grandfather died in July of 1925, he was married to Lillie Pitts who was born in 1889 and died in July of 1990. They had four children: Edna Marie Oldham Slaughter Rolla (Buck) Oldham Gail Borden Oldham ( my father) Ruby Nadeen Oldham Ellis I have been trying unsuccessfully for years to find information on Samuel Oldham, and have had no luck. I do think that we are talking about two different Samuel's. My grandmother did not know other than TN where my grandfather was born and did not know is parents. He migrated into southeast Missouri, somewhere around the Kennett, Senath area. If you can tie us in, please keep me updated. Thank You, Shelia Oldham Wilburn

    2. Steve J. Camer
    3. There were 2 Oldham (Leonia - TN; Lindsy - OK) on the Miller Cherokee Roll (Rejected). I assume some are on the accepted roll, but I do not have it. There were many people falsely rejected. Their applications, rejected or not, state their ancestry and why they feel they were of Cherokee descent. The table of contents of a new academic study of the roll is at http://members.aol.com/rarebk The site also has on-line the surname index of "Starr's Old Cherokee Families and Their Genealogy," a Cherokee Genealogy Tutorial which is a great primer on how to do effective Indian genealogy research, the 1835 Cherokee census which is within the tutorial, other indexes, and a Native American CD which appears to contain huge amounts of Native American genealogical material. Very fascinating. Steve ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Try it today - there's no risk!
