I noticed a January 17, 1997 query by Lister Linda Scheider about HETTIE OLDHAM of MCLENNEN CO., TX. I am working on this OLDHAM line also. Does anyone know how to contact LINDA SCHNEIDER? Her email on the query does not work. Or I would be happy to talk with anyone working the JAMES A. & HETTIE OLDHAM line. Thanks, Lynda

I believe he was killed in the Civil War. John Oldham was born in Grayson Co.,Ky according to the marriage certificate for David Daniel and Nancy Duncan. I have been thrown off by people referring to him as Curt, instead of John. The Shreve that he married was Obedience Shreve, the daughter of Clement Shreve and Frances Godsey. Obedience is buried in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Breckinridge Co, Ky along with Willis Jasper Lawrence, her second husband. She was born around 1835 in Rockingham Co.,North Carolina. Willis Jasper and Obedience had a daughter named Mary Frances born in 1874 and a son, George Henry born in 1868. Mary Frances died at a very young age. George Henry Lawrence was once a pastor of a Baptist church in Breckinridge Co., so was his son T.Lawrence.

John was the son of Daniel Oldham and Mary (Harvey) Oldham. They lived in Grayson County, south side of the Rough River. About 1855 John and several other family members moved to Spencer County, Indiana. I am trying to find out more about John and his family. I wonder if the Shreve he was married to could have been your Obedience Shreve. I have John's birth at about 1829 and Shreve at about 1837. Children's names that I have are Daniel, William, and John, born abt. 1856, 1858 and 1859, respectively.

His mother, Obedience Shreve, first married _________Oldham and then in 1866 she married my great, great Uncle Willis Jasper Lawrence. David Daniel first married Eliza Jane Tate, who was the daughter of Littleberry Tate. Littleberry Tate was the brother-in-law to my great grandfather, George N.Lawrence.George N.'s wife was Jane Tate(sister to Littleberry). George N.and Willis Jasper Lawrence were brothers. David and Eliza Jane had two children listed in 1880 census, Mary Frances 4 and William Henry 8 months. They seemed to live in the area of the falls, Breckinridge Co. side of the Rough Creek. I do not know when Eliza Jane died. David Daniel and Nancy Duncan were married in 1898, according to the Breckinridge Co.Archives.
My gggrandparents were Samuel Oldham, b.abt.1818 in England; Sarah Gee, b. in England,d. before 1880. Their sons were: Samuel, b.abt.1859 in England; Robert, b. abt.1865 in KY; & Ralph Clyde, b. June 23, 1861 in KY, d.Aug.26,1931 in Albuquerque, NM. On the 1880 Fed. census they are living in Maysville, Mason County, KY.and Samuel states he is a widower. Anyone doing research on this line of Oldhams? I would like to know where in England they came from & when they immigrated. And also learn about the younger Samuel & Robert's descendants. Ralph was my great grandfather & I have lots of info to share with interested persons about his desendants.

Surnames: OLDHAM, OLDUM, PETERSON, TARPLEY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Vm3.2ACEB/430.4.1 Message Board Post: Okay, here is some more wild speculation: The 1820 Census for Stewart County does list a Charlotte OLDUM as head of household. There are, in fact, no other OLDHAM households in Stewart County, but probably there are some in Montgomery County. This ought to be the Charlotte who is the mother of my Henrietta "Ritter". There are more children, and some of them younger, living in this household than what I have for Charlotte and George. Might this have been the scenario? Charlotte PETERSON married first George OLDHAM, having children Ritter, Isaac, Moses, Polly and Betsey, prior to 1804. Then my George dies, perhaps? (The death date of "abt 1850" seems to be attached to the one who married Henrietta STACEY.) At this point, Moses, Jr., marries his brother's widow, and they have Nancy in 1805, plus Ebenezer and John. Since there is a Charlotte still living and heading a household in 1820, perhaps Moses, Jr., did not get along all that well with said widow, so they divorced, and he married Christiana TARPLEY in 1816. Those two go off eventually to Texas, and in any event he is not heading a Stewart County household in 1820 (still in Montgomery, perhaps?). Well, when looking for needles in haystacks, you have to have a hunch about which haystacks to look in. Or was that a woodpile we were searching?
