Oldham was my gr-gr-grandfather, born Feb. 1834 (MO?), married Nancy Ann Oliver in Pike County, MO 29 June 1865. I cannot find any further information on him. Looking for his fathers name and where they came from prior to Missouri.
Well, also from the family that fathered them! The man in Chatham is Gerald Oldham, at 610 Old Lystra Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514, phone 919-933-6644. As he will tell you, Chatham County is full of both black and white Oldhams. Ross, There is an African American researching the Oldham line, his ggrandparents came from KY and they are Oldham's. I don't know who's line they fall under, but this is very common. Alot of the African American's took their last name from the people that owned them. Hope this helps some. I have an address somewhere, will try to find it for you, he isn't on the internet but he is an elderly gentelmen in Chatham and you can write to him and his grandson helps him answer your questions. Oliver Francis Oldham and his wife Minnie Pernetta(Miretta) Canaday are my great-great grandparents. Please contact me seperately. Take a look at my homepage. I have all the guardian bonds for Oliver and the will of his grandfather Hiram Oldham that he is mentioned in. He and Minnie sold the land his mother Margaret received from her father and it listed him as the only surviving heir of her's. Margaret married William Oldham son of Elias Oldham and Mary "Polly" Sisk. Margaret and William were cousins. She died during childbirth in 1863 and is buried in the Grapevine Cemetery in Madisonville between Hiram and Sarah Todd Oldham and Elias and Mary "Polly" Sisk Oldham. Jeanie-What are the time-lines for the Oldhams you are researching and what given names do these Oldhams have? I am a descendant from a line of Oldhams documented back to 1550 in England. Only one couple out of all those Oldhams in my line immigrated to the U.S. & they were my great-great-grandparents, Samuel Oldham & wife, Sarah Gee, who came here in 1861 & settled in Maysville, Mason County, KY. Hospital where he had been a patient for the past two weeks following several years of declining health. Oldham was born in Webster Co., Ky. March 10, 1886, the son of the late Willis Calvin and Elizabeth Fowler Oldham. He was married to Maude Campbell in 1916 and to this union five children were born. He was a member of Mortons Gap Christian Church and the G.L. Carrier Masonic Lodge 948 F&AM at Mortons Gap. He had previousley been a member of the N. H. Shaw Masonic Lodge 608 F&AM at Nortonville of which he was a past master. Oldham was street commissioner at Mortons Gap for several years He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Woodmen of the World. He was employed by the Kentucky Power Co. in Nortonville as a stationary engineer and later worked for KU before retiring in 1953. Surviving are his wife, Mrs, Maud Campbell Oldham, Mortons Gap; four daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Etta) Long and Mrs. Marvin (Ola) Wagoner, both of Louisville, Ky. Mrs, Lawson (Madalyne) Furgerson and Mrs Jean Wiley, both of St. Louis; a son Jack Oldham, Mortons Gap; a sister, Mrs. Sam Prow, Madisonville; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
