    3. Hi listers, I'm new & am interested in knowing if anyone has found details of a Hardwick family in old Frederick Co. which became Berkeley Co in 1772. I have a Mary Hardwick b 6 Aug 1766 of Berkeley Co. Va which is obviously not quite right given the county formation date. Mary married James Schooling 29 Dec 1784 in New Market, Loudoun Co VA. The parents of James Schooling evidently died in Berkeley Co. But if Mary was born in 1766 and didn't crawl out from under a rock I would think she had parents around there somewhere?? Can anybody help with this? I know there aren't a lot of records for those very early days but don't know till you ask, right? Thanks for any help anyone can give, or direction of where to go! 3. I would try land records, which go back to 1772 in Berkeley Co., and 1743 in Frederick Co., and are indexed--see what Hardwicks were around. Some deeds mention family relations (deeds of partition, etc.). Another course would be to see if any probate records are available for any Hardwicks. This might at least give you an idea of possible candidates for Mary's family. Cemetery record transcriptions might also produce something, also tax records (which I believe are available back to about the 1780s in both counties). These records have all been filmed by the LDS (Mormon Church) and can be viewed at your local Family History Center. See the catalog at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp. There is also a link there to find out what Family History Center would be nearest to you. Good luck!
