Dear Bill, North Mountain extends into Frederick, Shenandoah, and at least Rockingham Counties, maybe more. Sorry, but I don't have a database on the Marker family. I've seen the name numerous times, though. Possibly they meant the Stephens City area which faces North Mountain in Frederick County. Also, there is a Stephenson in Frederick County. These towns are often confused. Re migration from Old Frederick County in the 1700s, it was most often west and south in direction, south being NC, SC, and Tennessee. West was Kentucky and the midwest and sometimes western Pennsylvania. There was very little migration northward across the Blue Ridge Mountains. But there was a very small amount of movement from Culpeper, Orange, Fauquier and Loudoun Counties into Old Frederick. The latter exceptional cases were usually involved in commercial endeavors or political appointments.. Wilmer. Some searchers have John Marker dieing in Stevensburg, VA, which is in Culpepper County. His son said he died at North Mountain. North Mountain is in Berkeley Co., WV, and I assume it runs down into Frederick County. You mention Reuben Marker (p11-Historical Records...) and Mary Ann Marker (a great aunt)marrying Hiram Alkire (p71). Don't you believe someone listed Stevensburg when they perhaps meant Stevens City? Also, didn't most migrate west and not north? Maybe you even have something on the Marker's that I don't have. > >
