Millie, Unrelated to this story, but I see you have Snodgrass ancestors. My maternal grandfather was a Snodgrass down from Joseph Snodgrass of Botetourt county Va. I am traveling today, so don't have my files, but the first Joseph was born in 1711, I believe. Are these yours? You may get some help from someone on that list. The group incuded William Hibbs, Edward Parrish, Thomas Townshend, Jonathon Nixon, Charles Snodgrass (my ancestor) and a number of others. After crossing the Tygart Valley (WV), a couple of the men remained at a cabin due to the illness of one man. They planned to to join the others shortly. These men were killed by Indians...This atrocity put an end to the Kentucky plans of Hibbs and his friends. They took the dead men home, saw them buried, and, afterwards, lived out their lives in the Upper Monongahela Valley... > Rev. Jesse Nixon (1816-1906) related this story of Rev. Henry Morgan.. > Neither Glenn Lough or Grace Kelso Garner, author of "Earliest settlers, western Frederick-eastern Hampshire Counties in Virginia, their descendants" gave their "source of information" for this story. Does anyone know where it originated? I would like to include the story in an article I am writing but need the origin of the story. > Thanks. > Millie > > > ==== OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA Mailing List ==== > OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA UNSUBSCRIPTION DIRECTIONS > Old-Frederick-Co-Va-L-request@RootsWeb.com UNSUBSCRIBE (in message) > Old-Frederick-Co-Va-D-request@RootsWeb.com UNSUBSCRIBE (in message) > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
