Jerry and hopefully others I am Jo Anne W. Martin and I posted these messages yesterday and today on Frederick, MD, Washington Co, MD and Johnson Roots web mail list Maybe we have a connection because of the area Following are copies of my posts June 18,3004 [MDFR] RE;Thomas Johnson Information need to find the parents of Thomas Johnson and ? other information about this Johnson family. There are so many Thomas Johnsons but this is mine; and this is what I have to work with. Thomas Johnson was born on or abt. September 16, 1774 in MD or VA, died in Montgomery CO., Indiana on April 22,1854. Married on June 12, 1800 Washington CO. MD. to Catherine Nichol/s. Catherine was born on May 19, 1777 in MD, Christening: Nov 16, 1777, German Reform Church Frederick, MD and died Feb.28, 1862 Boone, CO. Indiana. She is the daughter of Michael Nichol b. Dec 30,1742, Lancaster, PA. and Maria Catherine Sheppard. The 1800 census shows Thomas and Catherine living near Michael Nichol in Cavetown area. Thomas and Catherine's daughter Elizabeth Margaret Johnson born in VA on June 5, 1820 near Harpers Ferry, and married David Beasley on March 21, 1839, Crawfordsville, Montgomery CO., Indiana. Elizabeth died Feb. 05, 1877 in Blue Springs, Otoe CO., Nebraska. I believe there must be other siblings for Elizabeth but have not been able to confirm any. Think Elizabeth had a least one brother or uncle in the Indiana area as a Joseph Johnson attested to her being allowed to marry (age) on a document, which still is in the Montgomery CO., Court House, Crawfordsville, Indiana. Thomas Johnson is listed on the 1850 Montgomery CO. Union Township, Indiana Census as born in VA and that is also true for wife Catherine. It also states he and Catherine are the same age 75 but Catherine is 73 at the time of the Census. In the 1860 Boone Co. Census the widow Catherine is living with Elizabeth and her husband David Beasley. Catherine's age is given as 83 years and birthplace as MD. LDS also shows Thomas as MD and gave a date of 1773 for his birth. The date of Sept 16, 1774 was the result of taking his years, months and days on his tombstone and going backwards for the date. In Catherine's case this has been accurate. Both are buried in Shannondale Cemetery, Montgomery Co. Indiana along with some of the Beasley children. I appreciate and thank all of you taking the time to read this and hope some one can help as I am stumped. Jo Anne W. Martin June19,2004 in regards to reply to Gov. Thomas Johnson, MD From: "Jo Anne Martin" <giovanna@centurytel.net> To: "Laurie Wolfe" <LaurieWolfe@adelphia.net> Subject: Re: [MDFR] RE;Thomas Johnson Information Date: Saturday, June 19, 2004 10:42 AM Laurie, thanks for interest. I have wondered if my Thomas may be a grandson, grandnephew, distant cousin or some other connection to the Gov. Thomas Johnson Family as they seem to be living near the area of the furnaces around 1800 (Catoctin) and in 1820 (Birth of Elizabeth Margaret Johnson) near Harper's Ferry, VA (WV) at Sandy Hook or Keep Tryst, MD where I understand there also was a furnace. Elizabeth always lists her birthplace as VA which would mean the south or west side as the rivers come into the Harper's Ferry area. I was in hopes of somebody spotting a connection or one of Elizabeth's older siblings remaining in the Maryland/Va area. I have this great gap between the 1800 Washington CO. MD Census and the 1840 Montgomery CO. Indiana Census where Thomas as HOH (and Catherine) are living with what appears either a son or daughter and their spouse and the grandchildren. Elizabeth M.(Johnson) and David Beasley are not living with her parents in 1840. Due to the lar! ge number of Thomas Johnsons in this MD/VA/ WV/PA area and the gaps in what I have this is difficult. Please Thomas Johnson will you stand up and tell me your family history, Your G.G.G. granddaughter and hers ( your ) descendants are waiting to hear your story. Jo Anne W.
