    1. Re: marriage bonds

    3. I have several references to a Samuel CARTER/Ann CHAMBERS marriage, and their children. I don't have a marriage date or name of bondsman though. 1. "Some Old Families of Calrke County, Virginia" by Lorraine F. Myers, Stuart E. Brown, Jr., and Eileen M. Chappel, copyright 1994 by Virginia Book Company, Box 431, Berryville, VA 22611. Page 66: "(2) Benjamin Carter (1705/7-1747/8) (born in Bucks County, died in Frederick County), m. ca 1730 (in Maryland?) Margareet Hollingsworth, dau. of Abraham and Ann Robionson Hollingsworth. (21) Samuel Carter (b. ca. 1730?), m. Ann Chambers (211) Joseph Chambes Carter, m. 1/1/1817 in Frederick County, Elizabeth Neill Lupton, dau. of John and Ann Neill Rees Lupton (she was widow of Henry Rees). (22) Thomas Carter (b. before 1748 in Frederick County, d. after 1783 in Florida), m. Mary Chambers. Benjamin Carter (2) may have had other children." 2. "CARTER COUSINS, Volume Two", More Descendants of James Carter and Susannah Griffith. Compiled and written by Marie Thompson Eberle and Margaret Shipp Henley, copyright 1997. The Gregath Publishing Company, Mid-West Divisionb, P.O. Box 505, Wyandotte, OK 74370. Page 36: "(#25 p.5) SAMUEL CARTER (Benjamin/James I) b. c. 1745(?) Fred. Co., VA, and wife, Ann Chambers dau/o William and younger sis/o Mary Chambers Carter (above). Listed State census, Frederick Co., VA, 1782-85 - 6 titheables, including himself. The property tax list for Frederick Co. 1787, lists both Samuel and Thomas, his brother, living close to each other or the land they paid taxes on was adjoining or nearby, although we know Thomas was living in North Florida by that time. Since Thomas and wife, Mary Chambers, did not sell Mary's inheritance (land in Fred. Co. -0 see Deed Bk. 21, pp 741-43) until the year 1787, they probably owed tax on the property for at least part of that year, thus the listing. However, Samuel and Ann may have remained in Virginia, although corroborating evidence has not been found at this time; however, Samuel and Ann do NOT appear in the records of South Carolina and North Florida. Two children are named in William Chambers' will:" 3. "History of the Lower Shenandoah Valley" Counties of Frederick, Berkeley, Jefferson and Clarke. Edited by J. E. Norris. Chicago, Illinois: A. The father of this lady, Joseph Chambers Carter, a descendant of one of William Penn's party, was born in Frederick county, Va., about three miles west of Winchester, near the Round Hill. He married Elizabeth Lupton, daughte rof John and Ann Lupton, from Bucks county, Penn. Her father died in 1855 at the age of seventy-five years, and her mother in 1853, at the age of seventy-three years. To them were born four children: Lydia Ann, Sarah Elizabeth, Mary margaret (who died in infancy) and Joshua Lupton (who died in October, 1887, at the age of sixty-four years). The father of Miss Carter was the son of Samuel and Ann Carter, nee Chambers, of Frederick county, and whilst her maternal grandfather was a native of Bucks county, Penn., his wife was the daughter of Lewis and Lydia Neill, nee Hollingsworth, and born in this county. While not an active member, the sympathies of Miss Carter are with the Society of Friends." Hope this helps. Jack R. Samuel Carter, and bondsman was Christopher Probasco. This marriage would be prior to 1782 in Fred. Co., VA It was just another one of those times that I got so excited about a piece of information that I didn't think I'd ever forget where it came from and didn't write it down. If someone has the marriage bonds of Fred. Co. would you please let me know if it is in your book? This is a very important link. You'd think I'd learn. I will be very grateful for any help.
