The following is quoted from page 50 of "Hopewell Friends History": "The name Hopewell was adopted by the Friends on Opeckon, it is most likely, from Hopewell in Lancaster County, Pa., from which place many of the early Friends came to Virginia. See "The Jolliffe Family of Virginia," by William Jolliffe, 1893, page 182. At first this meeting was usually called Opeckon (Opeckan, Opequon, etc.) because of it slocation, which is about four miles northwest of Opeckon Creek, or River. The majority of Friends' meetings were named for streams or other natural features of the localities in which they were situated." :-) Jack R.
