I was lucky enough to find a few deeds from the 1840's where my relative John R. Nelson was buying property in Winchester. The first he bought as a "trustee" for Mary Catherine Nelson - there was no relationship stated. Later on property is sold to a Robert Deshaw Trust. When I read the document, I began wondering about trusts established in the 1840's. Robert Deshaw was purchasing a property for the benefit of his "infant" son's use. I am supposing that "infant" in this instance means "minor". Can someone explain the legalese of this? John R. Nelson named a daughter Mary and it might well have been Mary Catherine born about 1835. I'd sure like to think I'd found his mother's name rather than some legal maneuver to get out of paying a property tax or? Any ideas? Karen Nelson Hangsleben
