I too would be interested in learning more about lands lying along the South Branch, as my ancestor seemed to have purchased several parcels there. I have been unable to place them with any accuracy, so all help is appreciated. Ellen [email protected] Subject: Early Land Surveys in South Branch Valley Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1999 11:27:42 EST From: [email protected] To: [email protected] I am trying to determine the location of early surveys and how the lots were laid out on the various Fairfax holdings in the South Branch Valley. I have read Charles Morrison's work on the topic but would like to know more about what and where the original records are, if anyone has tried to plot out the location of the various lots, etc. Am looking for South Branch Manor in particular but am also interested in Patterson Creek, So. Fork and Wappacomo surveys as well. I understand that in 1995, WV State Archives sponsored some kind of local history workshop and that Mrs. Zirk, the Moorefield Librarian gave a workshop on Fairfax land grants. Also Galtjo L. Geertsema, land surveyor of Martinsburg, also had some project on locating these early land surveys. Does anyone have info on these or other sources for this type of information?
