Hi Lee and list, if you go deep enough we all find problems in our ancestors history. My 3rd-grt-grd-father Wiley Cope was a Justice of the Peace in Floyd CO KY 1807, in Clay CO KY to 1821 , Perry CO KY 1830s and Daviess CO MO 1840s . His 1848 will is recorded in the History of Daviess CO MO listed a Slave family that the court told the family they could not sell and break apart this man, woman and their children . Wiley Cope's son Mason Williams Cope is listed on will and he refused to take one slave from this family because he owned his own slave family in Texas in 1848. In 1867 one of the former slaves in Farmersville, Collin CO TX named Charles Cope was living with Mason Cope's brother James McCoy Cope. Anna McCoy Cope wife of Mason has a brother James McCoy who was killed by Indians in the 1864 Elm Creek, TX and a movie with Christoher Reeve was made about this attack. I have the names of the former slave family that Wiley Cope has living with my family in MO. Iam now trying to prove that my Anna McCoy may have been of African desc. because no one has a record of her and this family always moved west to avoid people. David
