Hi List, what I found our about the Quakers would take a year to tell you what I found where they lived and who they are related to. I can tell you this and that is I can just about link most Quakers back to the Cope and Quaker Boone families. They forbid cousin marriages but you know people they all married into each family and the Copes' of Chester CO PA are related to everyone there by 1800. If your family stayed to long in one county then they wind up related to everyone there. My secret is that I always look for cousins in each family marriage and I look for what I call hour glass families and this is like two hour glasses one on top of the other. Example the Copes' and Willcocksons' are listed 1730 Chester CO PA , Copes and Willcocksons' are together 1768 Rowan CO NC tax list of Morgan bryan JR. Rachel Willcockson niece of Daniel Boone marr. William Bryant and they are with my 3rd-grt-grd-father Wiley Cope 1810 Clay CO KY in the area that became Breathitt CO KY in 1839. Rachel Willcockson's first cousin David Willcockson is listed in Farmersville, Collin CO TX 1860 and 1870 with my grt-grd-father John Miles Cope b) 1827 Breathitt CO KY and these Copes' and Willcocksons lived in Copeville which was Farmersville in 1870. My Grd-father Levi Bailey Cope was born in 1866 Farmersville, TX. In other words they come together then spilt up then come together again some where else and then spilt up and then come together again as desc. cousins and marry into each other several times in different states. For Peggy- Miriam Short Thompson White Coppock is a sister of Adam Short and Ann Short who marr. Joel Bailey 2 Nov 1687 . Joel Bailey''s sister Ann Bailey Jeremiah Cloud 10.6.1685 and Jeremiah Cloud is the son of Jeremiah Cloud who died 1717 Brandywine Hundred, New Castle CO DE. Jeremiah Cloud who died in 1717 has son John Cloud of New Castle CO who marr. Ann Beeson dau. of Edward Beeson will 1713 Nottingham, PA. Edward Cloud a son marr. Frances Bird 19 June 1728 Old swede church, New Castle CO DE dau. of Thomas Bird & Sarah Empson dau. of Cornelius Empson 1696/97 DE tax list with Oliver Cope . Joel & Ann Short Bailey have son Isaac Bailey marr. Abigail Wickersham Johnston 8.1.1727 Kennett MM and his widow marr. prob her 3rd and his 2nd wife Mordecai Cloud 9.30.1738 . This Mordecai Cloud is a brother of Jeremiah Cloud who marr. Ann Bailey in 1710 acording to Gilbert Cope and his 1881 bio on the Cloud families . Jeremiah Cloud who's will is 20 Feb 1715 and 21 dec 1717 has another son William Cloud and his will is 12 May 1747 and wife Elizabeth will 3 Feb 1749/50 with Exr: Joseph GRUBB have sons Mordecai, Henry, Daniel, Jeremiah , William , Joseph daus. Mabel Askew, Elizabeth Booth and Margaret. Frederick CO VA deeds show William Cloud of PA the father bought land there from Thomas Chester & Sarah CARTMILL and gave it to sons Jeremiah, Henry and Daniel Cloud and these 3 Clouds are here on this Frederick CO VA index- 1743-1758 deed book- Daniel Cloud pages 105, 108, 109 William Cloud 121,153 - the father Jeremiah Cloud pgs 19,61,105,109,122,132, The 1757 - 1763 book for Frederick CO VA has Ann Cloud pg 6, Jeremiah Cloud pg 6and 131, Henry Cloud pg 103 and 149, Daniel Cloud pg 102 and 103 and William Cloud pg 6 and 102. Hugh Harry/Harris and Daniel Harry are on the ship the " Vine " 1684 and they are from Mongomeryshire, Wales listed in Gilbert COPE's book page 22. Daniel Bailey is show in Quaker records as going to Fairfax CO VA 1755 and then to New Garden, NC Rowan 1762 which is Guildford, CO 1771 , Daniel goes back to York, PA in 1765. Joel & Ann Short Bailey's dau. Mary b) 9.10.1688 marr. Alexander Stewart who died 1714 Kennett and she is Mary Stewart 1715 Kennett tax list by Gilbert Cope. Mary married 2nd George Harlan 12.1715/16 son of Michael Harlan & Dinah Gregg of Duck Creek Hundred, New Castle CO DE. Mary Bialey Stewart Harlan has 3 Stewart children and one is Robert Stewart who marr. Martha Richardson and their son Jehu Stewart marr. a Stanley listed in the New Garden, NC MMs . Jehu Stewart is on the 1768 Rowan CO NC tax list of William Milliken where Peter Buffington and son Moses Buffington are listed. Moses Buffington was a COL. in the Loyalist Army and was killed in that Rev War . Peter Buffington marr. Hannah Waite 30 July 1750 Old Swede church and he is the son of Richard Buffington JR and Phebe Grubb dau. of John will 1707 New Castle CO DE. The widow Phebe Grubb marr. 2nd Simon Hadley in Bradford, PA about 4 years before he died. Simon Hadley's grd-son Simon Hadley is on the Surry CO NC records as Quaker 1775 and later. Richard Buffington JR' brother is Thomas Buffington who marr. Ruth COPE dau. of Oliver Cope of DE. Their son William Buffington marr. Magdalena Feree and they are on the 1782 and 1784 Hampshire CO VA tax list with other former Quakers. George Harlan who marr. Mary Bailey Stewart is a first cousin of Ezekiel Harlan listed with Jacob Stover VA land grants. Ezekeil Harlan marr. first Mary Bezer and 2nd Ruth Buffington sister of Thomas and Richard. Ezkiel Harlan & Ruth Buffington are grd-parents of Ellis Harlan of 1790 Pendelton CO SC who marr. Catherine Walker dau. of Cherokee chief King Fisher and these Harlans are in the Cherokee Indian records . Ezekiel Harlan was an Indian interpitor and went to Phila with several Indian Chiefs according to Gilbert Cope bk. Ezekeil's wife Ruth Buffington Harlan is at the wedding of John Cope & Charity Jefferies 30 Nov 1721 Bradford, PA. I can do this for hours but get to stop for now. David
